The flowers Huahua recently grew have all finished blooming, leaving a feeling of emptiness. Actually, it would be better to grow a small tree - easy to keep alive, able to bloom and bear fruit, much more interesting than ones that only bloom! I really want to plant one now - enjoy flowers in summer, harvest fruit in autumn, wouldn't that be delightful~

Lemon tree

Huahua often drinks lemon water, one cup a day keeps the digestion smooth, and I've heard it also has beauty and skincare benefits. The market price of lemons isn't low either. After thinking it over, it's better to just grow a lemon tree yourself!

1. Potted plant selection

Many flower enthusiasts ask, can lemons be grown in the north? Huahua can tell you for certain, as a crop it's impossible, but as a potted plant, bearing a few fruits, absolutely possible!

Lemons can indeed be grown from seed, but after sowing them yourself they can only be kept as a leafy potted plant, they won't grow large, let alone bloom and bear fruit. There are also many lemon seedlings for sale on the market, let Huahua help you pick some.

Lemon seedlings generally bear fruit after 3 years, so buy seedlings that are 3 years or older

New potted plants all have an adaptation period. Buying one during its flowering period and having problems after taking it home easily leads to disappointment. So either buy a lemon that hasn't bloomed yet, or buy one that has already fruited

2. Acclimating the pot

Newly purchased lemons may show yellowing and dropping leaves due to changes in temperature and humidity. Don't panic, this is normal

Place the lemon in a cool, ventilated spot at home, temporarily don't water it. After about 5-7 days, as long as the main trunk is still alive, you can move it to a sunny spot and water normally

If the situation hasn't improved by then, you can water with some nutrient solution, 5ml nutrient solution mixed with 1000ml water, apply once every half month

3. Care methods:

Once the lemon sapling survives, everything after that is easy. The care methods are simple and easy to follow

Soil:

Lay broken tiles at the bottom of the pot, then add fertilizer soil, garden soil, and clay pebbles

Water:

Water once every 2-3 days

Light:

Loves light, ensure more than 6 hours of sunlight per day

Fruiting period:

Blooms three times a year, fruits in spring and summer

Blueberry

Sweet and tart blueberries are not only delicious eaten raw, but can also be made into dried blueberries, suitable for all ages. Hurry and start growing them~

1. Potted plant selection

As long as you choose the right variety, flower enthusiasts from any region, north, south, east or west, can grow blueberries well and eat blueberries from their own garden. You can refer to the map below:

Northern flower enthusiasts should choose northern highbush blueberries, southern flower enthusiasts should choose southern highbush blueberries. In the southernmost areas such as Guangdong, Fujian, Hainan, Taiwan, China and other regions, the temperature is too high, blueberries can't develop their white bloom, so they're not very suitable for growing blueberries

2. Care methods:

Once you've chosen a suitable blueberry variety, you can boldly start growing them

Soil:

Mix nutrient soil and leaf mold with garden soil. For alkaline soil, add 5g of sulfurous acid to neutralize

Water:

Loves acid, water with acid water once a month (vinegar water or citric acid water diluted 500 times)

Light:

Loves shade, suitable for indoor or north balcony growing

Chilling requirement:

Blueberries need temperatures below 7 degrees in winter to ensure blooming and fruiting the following year

Goji berry

Huahua now adds goji berries to tea every time. But goji berries on the market generally have added coloring and sodium cyclamate, which feels unreliable. We can also grow goji berries ourselves!

1. North-south differences

Goji berries are cold-resistant, so they can be grown in both north and south. But there are differences between north and south cultivation. In the north they can bear fruit, in the south fruiting is poor, but the leaves can be eaten and have the same health benefits!

2. Care methods:

Soil:

Mix nutrient soil and sandy soil with regular garden soil, add base fertilizer at the bottom of the pot

Water:

Water once every 2-3 days in spring and autumn. During summer and winter dormancy, control watering

Light:

Loves light, full sun in spring, autumn and winter. Shade during high summer temperatures

Note:

Pruning can be done around Spring Festival

Kumquat tree

Flower enthusiasts may have bought kumquat trees during Chinese New Year. At that time, kumquat trees are all New Year potted flowers grown in greenhouses, very hard to keep alive. Better to grow them now, and by late summer you can eat kumquats!

1. Potted plant selection

Similar to lemons, although they can't be grown into large trees in the north, potted fruiting is still possible. So don't be discouraged, if you want to grow them, just grow them

2. Care methods:

Soil:

Mix leaf mold and sandy soil with garden soil

Water:

Water daily in spring, water morning and evening in summer, start controlling water in autumn and winter

Light:

Loves light, slightly shade-tolerant

Fertilizing:

Can add soybean cake fertilizer and eggshell fertilizer

Growing fruit trees at home

Many flower enthusiasts have this idea, right
