Wang Shi: The Two Sides of a Life, Both Active and Still

By DaDa
Did everyone watch the second season of "The Reader"? Are you like me and enjoy watching programs with cultural depth? In one episode, we saw the reborn Mei Changsu - Hu Ge, and saw the Xu family who have protected red-crowned cranes for generations. But a sturdy old man in the show sparked my curiosity. This "old man" is no ordinary person - he is a legendary figure! Curious? Let's take a look together!
When Dong Qing said: "In your bag there are always three things - one is a book, one is a notebook, but the third thing is unexpected - she said there would be a stone placed in your bag." This man who climbed Mount Everest at 52 nodded and said yes, and even took out a special stone. Dong Qing also said you completed the so-called "7+2" challenge, which is climbing the highest peaks of the seven continents, plus trekking to the North and South Poles. He nodded again, and said these experiences changed his values, saying that no matter how tough or domineering he was in business, he was still moved by this simple, pure "new world." Really? Is he very impressive in business? Wang Shi, such a brave man - just how impressive is he???
Real Estate Tycoon - Wang Shi
Wang Shi, male, born in January 1951, originally from Jinzhai, Anhui, born in Liuzhou, Guangxi, graduated from Lanzhou Jiaotong University (formerly Lanzhou Railway College) in Water Supply and Drainage Engineering, founder of China Vanke Co., Ltd., former Chairman of the Board, concurrently Executive Director of the China Real Estate Association, Vice Chairman of the Urban Housing Development Committee of the China Real Estate Association, Vice President of the Shenzhen Real Estate Association, Vice President of the Shenzhen General Chamber of Commerce, and other positions.
In September 2014, during the Incheon Asian Games, in the vote for President of the Asian Rowing Federation, he won 18 to 7 against Japanese opponent Naotake Okubo and was successfully elected, with a term of 5 years.
On October 23, 2015, he was elected President of the Shenzhen General Association of Social Organizations.
On June 30, 2017, Vanke held a shareholders' meeting, and Wang Shi formally resigned as Chairman of the Vanke Board. To fully affirm Wang Shi's irreplaceable contribution to Vanke over the past 33 years, the board appointed Wang Shi as Honorary Chairman of the Board; on July 1, Wang Shi became Chairman of the Vanke Foundation.
Wang Shi, with His Mind Returned to Stillness
Dong Qing said that after completing the "7+2" expedition, you began to climb an invisible mountain. At the age of sixty, you began studying at Harvard University. Wang Shi then spoke freely about his experiences studying at Harvard and Cambridge. He talked about having a tooth pulled because of gum inflammation from hard studying, he talked about joining a rowing club's training, and the story of discovering his reverse aging after painful training. At this moment, his face was filled with confidence and a satisfied smile. After experiencing another cleansing through culture, what he had more of was happiness from within!
In "On the Happy Life" that Wang Shi read aloud at the end, there is a passage: When tired, when weary, everywhere is home. A good person must be tempered by hardship to become strong; without experiencing wind and rain, no tree can take deep root. Therefore, in order to cultivate fearless courage, spend more time engaging in things that require boldness, and endure with calmness. What is unbearable to others is actually a harmful thing, but for a good person it is actually beneficial.
I have never trusted the goddess of fortune, not even when she showed me a friendly face. Those gifts she kindly bestowed on me - money, position, power - I deposited them in a place she could take back without disturbing me. As long as you do not take the bait when the goddess of fortune smiles, then when she frowns, you will not suffer a great loss.
Perhaps only after experiencing the countless changes of life, and enduring hardships and trials both great and small, can one have such plain yet happy reflections on life. Whether as a real estate tycoon commanding the business world, or a climber brave enough to challenge and defy danger, or an elderly student diligently pursuing knowledge, Wang Shi has such a colorful life - he is already a winner in life! Between movement and stillness, he moves with ease and finds joy in it!
