String of Hearts (Ceropegia woodii), also called rosary vine, is very beautiful when it grows well and its vines hang down, and its care is also relatively simple. Its leaves are fleshy, generally heart-shaped, very beautiful, and loved by many people. So how do you care for a String of Hearts so that it covers the whole balcony?

Water

String of Hearts itself is relatively drought-tolerant, so when watering the plant it is best to follow "do not water until dry, and when you water, water thoroughly." You can wait until the soil is slightly dry before watering the plant. In winter, String of Hearts is in a dormant state, so the amount of watering should be appropriately reduced. If you water too much, the roots may rot from overwatering, and it may even die outright.

Light

String of Hearts by nature does not like direct strong light and prefers diffused light, so during cultivation it must not be exposed to direct strong light, especially in the hot summer. If it is exposed to strong light, the leaves may be scorched, so simply keep it in a diffused-light environment. In the other seasons, it can receive some light in the morning. If the light is insufficient, it may become leggy.

Temperature

The suitable growing temperature for String of Hearts is 15-25°C. Only this can make it grow vigorously and make it easy for the plant to fill out its pot. When growing it in winter, the temperature must not be lower than 10°C, otherwise it is prone to cold damage. When the temperature is relatively high in summer, it needs to be cooled down appropriately, otherwise it is not conducive to plant growth.

Fertilizing

String of Hearts itself does not need much fertilizer, so when potting it you can add some base fertilizer to the soil, and applying fertilizer once a year is enough. When applying it, do not apply too much; just apply a thin application of a high-nitrogen compound fertilizer, and there will be sufficient nutrients for the growth of the String of Hearts.
