One of the four great famous varieties of Jianlan (Cymbidium ensifolium), it is a classic orchid variety loved by many orchid growers. Whether the plant is strong or weak, it holds up well, and it blooms freely! But not every grower can get it to bloom this profusely. Today let's take a look at how the experts grow it.
Jianlan (Cymbidium ensifolium) is very particular about its growing medium: avoid saline-alkali soil, and use fertile, well-aerated, slightly acidic soil (pH 5.5 to 7.0). Generally, leaf mold from forest gullies can be used, or a potting soil made by composting leaves, sand, and cake fertilizer. Use clay pots as much as possible, and fewer glazed or plastic pots. Growing in clay pots gives good aeration, which is better for Jianlan growth and reduces disease.
In addition, we can make our own flower fertilizer for better results. The materials used are the very common potato and tea leaves found at home. Generally, chop the potato into small pieces with a knife, put them in a bowl of clean water, then crush the tea leaves and put them in the bowl too, mix them together and soak for about a day, then filter out the residue, and take the filtered clear liquid to spray on the orchids. Spray once a day, and generally in about a week the orchids will turn lush and green.
Xiahuangmei is relatively easy to care for, has strong environmental adaptability, and has a high reproduction rate, making it one of the best choices for beginners growing Chinese orchids.
