The gardenia is evergreen year-round, with fragrant flowers and lush branches and leaves. It is a very popular potted ornamental plant. When it comes to propagation, just pinch off a branch and stick it in the soil, and it will take root and sprout. You can grow as many pots as you like. The gardenia of a flower enthusiast has just passed its peak blooming period. With a simple pruning like this, the gardenia will bloom more next time, and buds will rapidly cover the whole tree. It is very beautiful:

Pruning time for gardenia

The most suitable time to prune gardenia is from May to July, and also in December. These periods are after the flowering season and when spring shoots sprout in spring. After pruning, more new buds and new leaves will sprout. The growth rate is also especially fast.

Gardenia basically branches in threes. After each pruning, three branches will grow from the pruned spot, so each time you prune, nine branches grow. Therefore, only after pruning can it grow with lush branches and leaves and many flowers.

Pruning method

When pruning gardenia, first cut off the top three pairs of leaves on each branch. If there are spent flowers, cut them off as well. At the same time, cut off some dead branches, diseased branches, and leggy, thin, weak branches, and control the plant shape and height of the gardenia, so that more side branches grow and the whole gardenia becomes more luxuriant. When there are more branches, the next blooming season will also bring especially dense buds, with flower buds all over the tree. Dozens can bloom at one time.

Each time you prune, leave three to five thick main stems, and cut the other thin and weak branches from the base. If the main stem is especially thick, cut it short only a little the first time, so as to avoid a large wound affecting the growth of the plant.

If there are still flower buds on the gardenia, keep three to four flower buds on the strong branches, and cut off the flower buds on the thin and weak branches.

After-pruning care

After pruning gardenia, spray some chlorothalonil or carbendazim on the pruned parts of the branches to disinfect them.

Then water the flowerpot with some organic fertilizer water. Whether it is soybean cake water or chicken manure fertilizer water, both are fine.

If a flower enthusiast prunes the gardenia according to this method, in the second year it will grow with thick branches and strong leaves, and in two years it will be grown into something like a small tree.

The plant shape of the gardenia is graceful and neat, the flowers are evenly distributed, and it blooms in a splendid profusion.
