Summer is said to be the hard season for succulents. Many gardening enthusiasts worry that their succulents won't survive, let alone buying new ones. But in summer, if you come across a "big sale" on succulents, are you sure you really won't make a move? If you buy them, are you worried they'll die on you? Actually, master these 4 methods, and you can buy with no worries.

Online shopping is now more convenient than you can imagine. Of course, when it comes to succulents, online promotions are too numerous to count. Gardening enthusiasts can buy bargain succulents through online shopping, swapping with fellow enthusiasts, and other means.

However, succulents bought online are generally sold as bare roots, meaning without pots and without soil, because the cost is low. With other plants, lacking soil might quickly cause them to wither, but succulents are different; they can sit out of soil for ten days to half a month with no problem.

So, for these "big sale" succulents you bring home, if you want to grow them well after receiving them, before potting you must do these 4 things thoroughly:

1. If the succulent plant has too many fibrous roots, trim them a bit, as this can effectively prevent root mealybug pests. If the roots of the purchased succulent plant carry residual root mealybug eggs, only by trimming away the fibrous roots can you prevent root mealybugs, and a succulent with only the main root left is also easier to establish in its pot.

2. Prepare a basin of clean water and wash the roots of the succulent plant clean. The best method is to hold the base of the stem and shake it back and forth to rinse; never put the plant under a faucet to rinse, as this easily breaks the roots.

3. Use a 1:500 dilution of succulent-specific organic nutrient solution or carbendazim to soak the plant for half an hour, then take it out and place it in a ventilated, shady spot to air-dry. Once completely dry, prepare to pot it.

4. After potting, do not water immediately. Leave it for two or three days, letting the succulent's root system spread out slightly before watering. For the first watering, you can use a spray bottle to give a small amount of water, then gradually increase.

Follow these methods, and no matter how many succulents you buy in summer, you won't need to worry about them not surviving.
