Introduction

Green plants and potted flowers are essential decorative elements of home life, beautifying the living space while also lifting the spirits and nurturing the character. Keeping some plants and flowers at home brings many benefits. "Flower Voice Potted Plant Diary - Issue 1045" introduces you to a very cold-hardy climbing flowering plant.

Today's Featured Plant

I have previously introduced many kinds of climbing flowering plants, such as bougainvillea, mandevilla, and hoya, most of which come from tropical regions and are not cold-hardy, leaving many flower lovers in the north able to do nothing but admire them from afar. The plant introduced this time is called Italian star jasmine, which is not only heat-tolerant and unafraid of scorching summer heat, but also very cold-hardy, and can even be grown outdoors in northern regions.

Italian Star Jasmine

Italian star jasmine is a new type of ornamental climbing plant, a garden variety of star jasmine (Trachelospermum jasminoides), known for its strong cold hardiness. It can withstand short-term low temperatures of minus 20 degrees (though not prolonged exposure). In northern China, star jasmine has been found growing in places such as Jinan, Handan, Linfen, Xi'an, and Shexian County in Hebei, and it does not lose its leaves in winter, remaining evergreen through all four seasons, showing that its cold hardiness is truly extraordinary.

Elegant Flowers

Italian star jasmine produces small white flowers, fresh and elegant, with standard five-petaled blooms arranged in a pinwheel pattern, very similar to the pinwheels we played with as children. To attract the attention of small bees, it gives off a fragrance similar to jasmine, very rich, and can be smelled from far away, refreshing to the heart, which is why it is also called "pinwheel jasmine."

Easy Care

Italian star jasmine is not only cold-hardy but also quite heat-resistant, looking good even during the scorching heat of summer, unlike clematis, which becomes sickly as soon as summer arrives. It is relatively easy to care for, not particular about soil, and can be grown in ordinary garden soil. It has low requirements for its growing environment and adapts to both north and south. Daily care can be simple: water when the potting soil is completely dry, and if it is not dry, you can leave it alone.

One Bloom Opens, Fragrance Fills the Room

Italian star jasmine has a very long flowering period, generally blooming in two large waves. In spring and summer from March to July, with peak bloom in May, flowers cover the branches, sometimes even outnumbering the leaves, creating a spectacular and beautiful sight. It blooms once more in autumn. Whether planted in a courtyard or grown on a balcony, when it blooms, fragrance fills the entire room. It is well worth having.
