When we grow flowering plants such as azaleas, gardenias, jasmine and camellias, we often hear gardening experts recommend applying alum fertilizer water to them. What exactly is alum fertilizer water? What effect does it have on these flowering plants? How do you make alum fertilizer water at home? Today we will answer these one by one.

Friends who often grow flowers know that flowering plants like azaleas and gardenias are mostly shipped from greenhouses in southern China. Because of the climate conditions and regional differences between north and south, the soil pH differs between north and south. Southern soil tends to be acidic, while northern soil and water tend to be alkaline. When southern flowers arrive at the home of a northern flower lover, nothing may change in the short term, but over time, yellowing leaves and wilting will appear. Besides being related to growing management, most of the cause is insufficient soil acidity. The alum fertilizer water that flower lovers invented and fermented themselves just happens to solve this problem.

Alum fertilizer water is a slightly acidic fertilizer, which just happens to solve the problem of alkaline soil when growing southern flowers in the north. Applying an appropriate amount of alum fertilizer water during the vigorous growth period of acid-loving plants can make the leaves thick and dark green, and the flowers large and brightly colored.

There are two ways to make alum fertilizer water; 1. Mix ferrous sulfate, dried manure, cake fertilizer and water in a ratio of 1:3:5:100, put it into a sealed plastic container, and after full fermentation it becomes a dark green liquid. For ordinary home flower growing, a discarded old oil drum will do. If conditions allow, you can put it in the sun to bake, and open the lid every few days to release gas to prevent the bottle from bursting. Generally it is fully rotted in 1 month in summer and 2~3 months in winter.

2. Add a small amount of ferrous sulfate to fermented mixed organic fertilizer such as rice washing water, fruit peel enzyme, soybean cake water, and it is also alum fertilizer water. Fully rotted alum fertilizer water contains both sufficient humus and is slightly acidic. Dilute with water 20 times and water the flowers with it. It not only supplements nutrients for the flowers, but also quickly relieves chlorosis caused by alkaline soil or iron deficiency. When fertilizing, remember to apply light fertilizer frequently, and do not overdo it, so as not to burn the roots. Try it quickly!
