Grape downy mildew is one of the main diseases of grapes, found in vineyards throughout China, especially in humid, rainy areas where the disease is more severe. It causes leaf scorch, poor growth of new shoots, and even rotting of young fruit, seriously affecting grape quality and yield. It also makes grapes less cold-resistant, creating difficulties for overwintering.

Waiting until grape downy mildew breaks out to start controlling it will inevitably greatly increase costs and cause irreparable damage to later quality and yield. So for grape downy mildew, prevention is key! So where should you start?

Orchard sanitation prevention:

In autumn, thoroughly clean the vineyard. Especially for orchards where downy mildew occurred that year, clean thoroughly, prune off diseased shoots, collect diseased leaves, and burn them in a centralized pile.

Chemical prevention:

After cleaning the orchard, apply microbial agents near the grape plants, then add an additional application once a month to achieve a preventive effect.

After the active beneficial bacteria in microbial agents enter the soil, they can inhibit or kill pathogenic bacteria through their own life activities, improve soil structure, enrich the soil, make grape roots well developed and stems and leaves thick and sturdy, improve disease resistance, and resist grape downy mildew infection from the root.

Strengthen orchard management:

After applying microbial agents to establish a protective barrier, orchard management should still be strengthened so that the vineyard growing environment is unfavorable for disease development, and appropriately supplement the nutrients needed for growth, making grapes grow stronger and better in quality!

First, carry out summer pruning in time, tie up branches and vines, and improve ventilation and light conditions on the grape trellis.

Second, weed in time, pay attention to drainage after rain, and reduce ground humidity.

Third, appropriately increase the application of phosphorus and potassium fertilizers to improve plant disease resistance and fruit quality.
