Asparagus fern (Asparagus plumosus) is quite "sensitive" to external environmental conditions. When caring for it, flower lovers need to provide scientific care in terms of temperature, light, watering, soil, and fertilizing, so that its branches and leaves stay elegant and it grows beautifully.

1. Temperature

Asparagus fern likes warmth and is not cold-tolerant. In winter it should be moved into a greenhouse for care, and the room temperature should be kept above 10°C.

2. Water

Asparagus fern likes moisture, and dislikes waterlogging and drought. Therefore, whether watering is done properly is a key part of success or failure in caring for asparagus fern. During the growth and development period, the amount and frequency of watering should be determined according to the season, growth condition, and soil condition. Usually, water so that it seeps in quickly without accumulating; do not water when dry, water thoroughly when you do water, and never give "half watering." When the climate is dry or in hot summer, besides keeping the soil moist, you should also frequently spray the branches, leaves, and the area around the plant with clean water to increase air humidity.

3. Fertilizing

Asparagus fern likes fertilizer, and should be fertilized frequently and in small amounts. Spring and autumn are the periods of vigorous growth for asparagus fern, so apply a dilute fertilizer solution mainly of nitrogen and potassium, or a compound chemical liquid fertilizer, once every 2 weeks; stop fertilizing when summer temperatures are high.

If flower lovers need to cultivate a dwarf plant type, they should apply less topdressing, expose it to more sunlight, and control watering. But if no fertilizer is applied for a long time and the pot and soil are not changed, the branches and leaves may also turn yellow due to insufficient nutrients.

4. Light

Asparagus fern likes a semi-shaded environment and dislikes direct sun exposure. In addition to avoiding strong light, it should be kept year-round indoors in a bright place with scattered light, so as to maintain even growth and a graceful plant shape.

5. Soil

Asparagus fern likes loose, fertile sandy loam with good drainage and aeration. For pot cultivation, it is advisable to use a culture soil mixed with 4 parts leaf mold, 4 parts garden soil, 2 parts sandy soil, plus an appropriate amount of decomposed cake fertilizer powder. After potting, the pot should be changed every 1~2 years before germination in early spring, adding new culture soil.
