How to care for pothos when the air conditioner is on in summer

Taiyou "Sangsang" is a new taiyou growing plants on a balcony. Recently, the Tai Zhang has been chatting with Sangsang a lot.

The little girl's wish is to build a garden of her own on the reinforced concrete roof of a house, one that people can admire, where 3 to 5 friends can come for tea and a chat, and where friends are also welcome to take home potted plants they like.

Sangsang says she really likes pothos, because it is very easy to grow, and for decorating a home it is truly an irreplaceable green plant.

Pothos likes a warm, humid environment with scattered light. Pothos is not tolerant of cold or drought, tolerates shade, tolerates moisture, and dislikes intense direct sun. The suitable temperature for growth is 20 to 25°C.

Pothos is not demanding about soil, and a loose, fertile sandy loam with good drainage is ideal. For potting soil, garden soil, leaf mold and river sand can be mixed in a ratio of 5:3:2.

In summer, when temperatures are high, make sure there is a sufficient water supply, watering once a day so the potting soil stays consistently moist. In winter, when temperatures are lower, the potting soil should be kept moist but on the dry side, to avoid root rot or even death from overwatering.

Pothos likes fertilizer, mainly nitrogen fertilizer. When fertilizer is insufficient, the leaves are small and the stems thin and weak. During the seedling stage, in the growing season, apply a thin liquid fertilizer 2 to 3 times a month to promote growth. Once the plant has taken shape, apply a fully decomposed thin liquid fertilizer once every 30 days.

Pothos is mostly propagated by cuttings, which can be done in spring along with shaping and pruning, using the cut vine tips as cuttings and sticking them directly into a sand bed or potting soil.

After inserting them, water directly, place in a shady spot, and at 25°C they will root and sprout in 20 days.

However, Sangsang says what she worries about most is summer.

Because air conditioning is often turned on in rooms in summer, what should be kept in mind when caring for pothos with the air conditioner running?

First, in a room with air conditioning, be careful not to let the air conditioning vent blow directly onto the pothos leaves.

Second, be careful to mist the leaves and the area around the plant more often, to increase air humidity.

Third, plants are like the human body: over time, being in air conditioning is not good for the body's self-regulation. So do not stay in an air-conditioned room all the time; turn it off at the right moments.

Whether it is for growing pothos or for your own health, although summer is hot, the changes of the four seasons are given by nature, so taiyou, do not be too greedy for coolness!

Grow a pot of pothos and place it on a windowsill, a desk, or a coffee table, or hang it in the bathroom or from a corner of the kitchen wall; it is very fresh and beautiful.
