Pachyphytum 'Starbright', also known as Pachyphytum 'White Beauty', is a succulent in the Crassulaceae family, genus Pachyphytum, native to San Luis Potosi in the central Mexican highlands. It is said to be named 'Starbright' because its leaves are as numerous as stars, and because it is covered in a white powder, it is commonly called 'White Beauty'.
The leaves of Pachyphytum 'Starbright' are fleshy, oblong, with rounded blunt tips, smaller at the other end and stalkless. The leaf color is as green as fine jade, and the leaf surface is covered with a white powdery bloom, like a beauty applying makeup, making the plant appear a faint blue. Sometimes the leaf tips have a purplish-red blush, even more like a shy maiden, endearing. When Pachyphytum 'Starbright' is planted in clusters, the numerous leaves are very elegant and charming, resembling a lovely 'little beauty'. The inflorescence of Pachyphytum 'Starbright' is relatively short, with inverted bell-shaped flowers arranged in a row, red in color, blooming in summer. Under ordinary care, Pachyphytum 'Starbright' is plump and round, somewhat pale and tender, so calling it 'White Beauty' makes sense.
So how do you grow Pachyphytum 'Starbright'? Let's talk about it together below.
Light: With sufficient light, the leaf color tends to be vivid. When the temperature is suitable, place it outdoors to ensure sufficient light. If light is insufficient or the soil is too moist, it will become leggy, and the plant will turn light green or dark green and accelerate upward growth, which will seriously affect its ornamental value and may even lead to the death of the plant.
Water: Never overwater. To avoid water accumulating at the roots, use pots with drainage holes at the bottom and ceramic pots. Watering frequency should vary according to climate differences in different regions and seasons.
Soil: A loose sandy loam is required as the growing medium. Water moderately; in hot and humid conditions, control watering, strengthen ventilation, and keep it cool. In winter, place it indoors, generally at a temperature no lower than 10°C, and keep the potting soil slightly dry.
Temperature: In high temperatures the plant enters a semi-dormant state and grows slowly, so ventilation should be strengthened, light should be bright, and watering should be appropriately reduced to prevent the plant from rotting. In winter it requires cool conditions, and there is no need to water too much. Do not fertilize either, and ensure sufficient sunlight.
Pruning: Usually old leaves need to be removed to prevent bacterial growth. If the plant becomes leggy, the height can be controlled by pruning the top branches and leaves to maintain a beautiful plant shape.
