Dead leaves and withered branches turn waste into treasure: she turns trash into art

Many artists are inspired by nature and use unnatural materials to simulate nature. But the artist introduced today, Susanna Bauer, does the opposite: she takes her materials from nature and uses unconventional artistic techniques to reshape nature.

Susanna Bauer

Susanna Bauer is an artist from Germany. Unconventionally creative, she likes to stitch and patch up dead leaves and withered branches in nature and knit sweaters for stones, creating a novel kind of artwork.

Leaves, withered branches, dead wood, broken stones... these things have short lives and are often overlooked, but in the hands of an artist they often gain new life. (I immediately think of some florists I know who all have a warehouse filled with treasures they have "picked up" everywhere.)

Bauer began learning weaving in childhood, and from this she combined weaving with natural details she picked up, such as leaves, branches and stones, carefully working them with needle and thread into miniature artworks, making people marvel at the beauty of the combination of nature and ingenious handicraft.

Susanna's works convey a balance between fragility and strength. Fallen leaves themselves are insignificant things and are also very easily broken. Supple lines travel through the dead leaves, and only very delicate handwork can achieve the ideal form.

Susanna Bauer says, "I work to discover the beauty of nature." In the work of "searching for the beauty of nature," fragility and strength are well balanced. Indeed, when soft thread passes through fragile dead leaves and slender withered branches, it also conveys a deeper meaning: ease and tension exist between people, nature's brief yet eternal beauty can be found in the delicate world, and fragility and strength can, as a whole, be poured out to nature or transformed into everyone's story.

After seeing her works, I cannot help but think of that very "corny" saying: the world is not lacking beauty, but lacking eyes to discover beauty!
