In bonsai making, in fact, very few tree species have all the desired characteristics in every respect. Perhaps one with better flowers and fruit does not have a very good shape. So according to the actual situation, we must maximize strengths and avoid weaknesses.

The more common ones include Chinese elm (Ulmus parvifolia), plum pine (Sageretia thea), Buddhist pine (Podocarpus macrophyllus), five-needle pine (Pinus parviflora), banyan (Ficus microcarpa), and Chinese fringe tree (Chionanthus retusus), among others. From a comprehensive perspective, golden bullet tree (Diospyros cathayensis) has the best overall conditions. Whether in stump form or foliage, as well as its tolerance to pruning and strong adaptability, it is relatively favored.
