For growing roses, Lanyao does not recommend that everyone start with small seedlings, but many flower friends say that small seedlings do not like to grow. Just the day before yesterday, a flower friend asked Lanyao: after repotting, my rose seedling just will not grow, what should I do?

I do not know whether you have encountered the same problem in the process of growing roses?

Why do roses become stunted and stop growing after repotting? How do we solve this problem?

To solve stunting, we first need to find the cause. When roses do not grow after repotting, it is mostly closely related to the potting soil.

As for this flower friend's rose, he used ordinary garden soil and added some plant ash.

First, after repeated watering, pure garden soil in pots will become compacted, and the air permeability of garden soil is also relatively poor, which is not good for the development of new rose roots.

Next, plant ash. Plant ash is a natural potassium fertilizer, so using a little appropriately is fine, but note that plant ash is alkaline, and our roses prefer slightly acidic and neutral soil, so plant ash should not be added in large amounts.

The soil this flower friend used before was no good, and he had already changed it once, but the replacement soil was still no good. After two repottings, and with the potting soil still unsuitable for rose growth, stunting naturally appeared.

Regarding rose soil mixes, Lanyao has already introduced many kinds of soil mix plans in previous articles. Flower friends who need soil mix plans can look through Lanyao's past articles.

Many people say that they casually grow roses with garden soil plus coal cinder and the roses all grow very well. Is that true?

Lanyao has also tried garden soil plus coal cinder. As for whether they grow well, it still depends on management and variety. Native roses are naturally easier to keep alive than introduced varieties, and classic varieties are naturally more tolerant of rough treatment than new and exotic varieties.

But from the perspective of root growth, for the same variety, the roots grown in garden soil plus coal cinder really cannot compare with those cultivated in special rose soil.

For beginners, it is recommended to use special soil suitable for rose growth for potting soil, which can save a lot of worry in management. Only with strong roots will the seedlings grow well.

Let us not make a mistake in the very first step of growing roses. If the starting point is wrong, every step afterward will be very difficult.

Special reminder:

Do not use pure general-purpose nutrient soil to grow roses. This is very dangerous.
