Add this to the hydroponic bottle, and the smell disappears in 2 days and no more bugs

In summer, many flower lovers enjoy growing plants hydroponically, but after a while the water starts to stink. Actually, the solution is very simple: add something to the water to sterilize and disinfect, and it also prevents rot!

How do you tell whether the roots have rotted?

Check the roots

Observe the plant's roots. If they turn yellow or black, become soft, and the outer skin falls off very easily leaving only the woody part, the roots have already rotted;

Smell the odor

If you smell a rotten odor from the roots, or the water itself stinks, the roots have already rotted.

What should you do if the roots have rotted?

1. Take the plant out of the hydroponic bottle, rinse it with clean water first, then cut off the rotted roots and tubers;

2. Soak the trimmed plant roots in a 0.5% potassium permanganate solution or a 0.1% carbendazim solution for 20~30 minutes;

3. Add a few drops of potassium permanganate solution to the hydroponic bottle to disinfect it, wash it clean and replace the water, then put the treated plant back in to grow.

How do you prevent root rot?

To prevent the plant's roots from rotting, you can add a little of a disinfectant agent or item with sterilizing and disinfecting effects to the hydroponic bottle every time you change the water. It not only helps growth but also saves worry and effort.

Ferrous sulfate

Adding ferrous sulfate solution to the water can supplement iron for the plant and also regulate the acid-base balance of the water, thereby preventing yellow leaves and root rot.

Usage and dosage: Dilute ferrous sulfate powder with water at 1000 times, then drip 5~8 drops into the hydroponic bottle about every half month.

Metronidazole

Metronidazole can effectively kill anaerobic bacteria in the water and prevent the water from stinking due to bacterial infection.

Usage and dosage: Dilute one metronidazole tablet in 1000 ml of water, and drip a few drops into the hydroponic bottle each time you change the water.

Charcoal

Charcoal has a very good adsorbing and anti-rot effect. Putting it in the bottle can effectively purify the water quality and prevent the plant's roots and stems from rotting.

Usage and dosage: Each time you change the water, add 5~7 pieces of thumb-sized charcoal to the bottle to achieve the anti-rot effect.

Rusty iron nails

Putting rusty iron nails in water works on the same principle as ferrous sulfate solution. It can supplement iron for the leaves and prevent yellow leaves and rot. The operation is simple, but the effect is slow.

Usage and dosage: Throw the rusty iron nails directly into the water, 2~3 pieces are enough. Take them out each time you change the water and they can be used again.

Carbendazim

Carbendazim also has a very good disinfecting and sterilizing effect. Adding it to the water can prevent root rot and also heal wounds.

Usage and dosage: According to the instructions, dilute the carbendazim solution with water, and drip a few drops into the hydroponic bottle every 3~5 days.

For hydroponic plants in summer, anti-rot is key

Flower lovers, remember to change the water frequently~
