Spinach, a common vegetable on the dining table, tastes good and is rich in nutrients, earning it the title of "nutrition model student," which naturally makes it the top choice for balcony vegetable growing. So how do you grow spinach on a balcony? Let's take a look at the balcony growing method and precautions for potted spinach.

I. How to Grow Spinach on a Balcony

1. Seed soaking: Soak the vegetable seeds in warm water for about 3-5 hours, or in cool water for about 20 hours.

2. Germination: Put the seeds in a wet towel, keep the towel moist, then place them in a spot with a suitable temperature to germinate, and wait until the seeds sprout small white shoots.

3. Sowing: Scatter the seeds in the vegetable pot, then cover them with soil 2-3 times the thickness of the seeds.

4. Watering: It is best to use a spray bottle to spray a fine mist of water, watering little but often.

5. Fertilizing: (1) Base fertilizer: before sowing, mix organic fertilizer with soil at a ratio of 1:5, then bury the mixed soil evenly in the middle-lower part of the soil held in the pot; (2) Top dressing: apply organic fertilizer once a month, with the amount determined by the size of the pot, choose a spot in the pot about 3 cm from the vegetable roots, dig a hole and bury the organic fertilizer in the soil, then water.

II. Precautions for Growing Spinach on a Balcony

First of all, spinach seeds are relatively difficult to germinate, so they need to be soaked for 24 hours first. If you feel that this is not reliable enough, you can try the "paper towel germination method": take a saucer, place a piece of paper towel on it, put the seeds in the paper towel, and cover with another piece of paper towel. Moisten the paper towel, preferably so that it is moist but not dripping. Then cover it with another layer of film, or put it in a bag. This way, over a day, the paper towel can stay moist. Remember to uncover the outer covering every day to let the seeds breathe for a while. Also, be sure to control the temperature for growing spinach well, as it should not be too high or too low, to prevent the spinach seeds from failing to germinate and grow.
