Bougainvillea cuttings is a topic I am interested in, with many different methods such as water cuttings, floral foam cuttings, sponge cuttings and so on. On a sudden whim, I wondered whether gauze could be used to root bougainvillea. After some designing, and with a try-it-and-see attitude, I took a cutting of Green Leaf Big Red, and unexpectedly it actually succeeded. Please see the illustrated steps below:

1. Cut a cutting and treat it with rooting hormone. The gauze should be about 20cm long and 10cm wide; adjust the gauze size according to the thickness of the cutting.

2. Fold the gauze in half, wrap it around the base of the cutting, tie it securely with fine thread, and soak it with water.

3. Wash a mineral water bottle clean, fill it with clean water, put in the cutting, and plug the bottle mouth with cotton to hold the cutting in place and prevent water in the bottle from evaporating. Keep the base of the cutting about 1cm above the water surface.

4. Cover with a bag to retain moisture, place it in a cool spot for care, and depending on the situation add water to the gauze once every 10 days.

5. The cutting rooted on July 30. This experiment took place during the summer high-temperature period, which is unfavorable for cuttings. The experimental results show that using cotton to promote rooting is feasible. Below, take a look at the later blooming photos; I hope they are useful to everyone.
