Outdoor potted succulents: 4 things you must do at this time!

Here are some tips to help outdoor potted succulents avoid root rot and turning to mush, and get through the hot summer safely!

It has really been too hot these past few days. Apart from "summer-growing" succulents that can still look a bit more lively, the other succulents have all started to go dormant. If they are potted succulents grown outdoors, this is the most dangerous period. Succulents without any protection are the most prone to root rot or turning to mush. So here I want to tell fellow plant lovers: if your potted succulents are still being grown outdoors, you must do these "4 things" at this time!

1. Ventilation. To ensure the safety of your succulents, it is recommended to move them indoors to a ventilated environment for care. If you are a succulent lover in a coastal area, you can open the windows for more ventilation when there is wind. Succulent lovers in the "free shipping zone" can use a small fan to enhance air circulation, which can also help lower the temperature.

2. Shade. The sunlight in June is very strong, so do not let succulents be exposed to the sun casually. Whether you grow succulents on an outer windowsill or inside the window, it is best to put up a sunshade net. If you do not want to shade them, you can place the succulents indoors in a cool, ventilated spot. Remember not to let them sit in a stuffy environment (combine this with point 1).

3. Be very careful with watering. At this temperature, succulents are very prone to root rot, and the reason most plants get root rot is that they are watered too much. Pots with good breathability are fine, but if the pot has average or poor breathability, once the weather gets hot the water cannot evaporate in time, which easily leads to root rot. When watering succulents, choose the evening when it is cool or even breezy. You can also regularly spray water around the succulents to increase air humidity. In addition, you also need to pay attention to the situation with summer rain.

4. Soil. You need a suitable growing medium for succulents, and this point is very important. Generally, before summer arrives, we repot and change the soil for succulents, replacing poor soil with loose, breathable soil, all so the succulents can get through summer safely. Soil that is breathable, drains well, and is loose is the key to succulents safely getting through summer (and winter).

In addition, succulents basically do not grow during their dormant period. When the environment improves and the temperature is suitable, the succulents will immediately return to growth mode. Also, since the weather is hot now, you can buy fewer succulents, so as to avoid the succulents failing to establish in the pot and their roots rotting.
