Newly bought lucky bamboo has yellowing leaves and won't root - how should you fix it?

First, let's talk about the temperature lucky bamboo likes: 18 to 24°C. Below 13°C it goes dormant, and above 30°C its rooting is fairly slow, so it's best not to buy lucky bamboo in summer if you can avoid it.

During the time the lucky bamboo is shipped from its place of origin, it has no roots of its own. By the time it reaches your hands, yellow leaves start to appear. This yellowing is fairly common; sometimes the whole plant turns yellow and drops its leaves, because the temperature is too high for it to root. Even if it can root, it's very slow. Rooting normally takes fifteen to thirty days, but bought in this season, it sometimes takes more than 30 days. During this period, change the water for fresh clean water every few days. Put it in one spot and don't move it; don't change its position before it roots. Give it bright, indirect light as much as possible so it can root quickly.

Before growing it in water, you must remove as many of the bottom leaves as possible. The water level should preferably not exceed 2/3 of the bottle; generally, just the bottom two to three nodes of the bamboo need to be in the water. If rooting is slow, you can wrap the whole bottle in something black to block the light, and it will root a bit faster. Once it has rooted and the roots are growing well, you can take the black bag off, and that's it!

Once roots have grown, you can fertilize; after that, just give it fertilizer water about once every 30 days. Try not to make the concentration too strong, and don't put it next to appliances, TVs and the like. That easily causes yellow leaves.
