Rain lilies, these plants are very distinctive: in spring and summer, they bloom right after it rains, but watering alone will not do it. That is how the rain lily got its name, which is both vivid and lovely.

I had never grown rain lilies before, had not even heard of them. I had always grown Chinese orchids (Cymbidium) and freesias (Freesia). One chance occasion, I saw the rain lilies at a fellow flower grower's home, and I was instantly captivated.

After sowing rain lilies, they can be grown with minimal care in daily maintenance. That is, there is no need to tend them too carefully. Generally, covering them with 2-3 cm of soil is enough. For a 20-30 cm pot, planting about 5-6 bulbs is fine. As for pot depth, a medium pot, neither shallow nor deep, will do. Once planted, apart from watering and fertilizing, you hardly need to bother with them.

Rain lilies can be planted in all four seasons, and once buried they will grow. Rain lilies can sense the weather: the closer the heavy rain, the faster the buds grow.
