China continuously imports agricultural products from countries around the world every year, and one big reason for this is domestic demand. Looking at the agricultural products our country imports, the main ones are soybeans and pork. As for other agricultural products, although they are also imported, the volumes are very small. Soybeans

The biggest reason China imports American soybeans is that our country's soybean production is simply too weak. In 2017, for example, China's total soybean output was only 13 million tons, while domestic demand reached 110 million tons. As for the idea of our country growing enough soybeans to meet domestic demand, this was analyzed before as well. In that case, our country would have to use nearly half of its arable land to produce soybeans, and then our country would face a food crisis. In other words, as our country's demand for meat products increases, our country has no choice but to buy enough soybeans from other countries to produce enough feed.

Everyone think about why there was no need to import soybeans during the Cultural Revolution. It was not that our country's soybean production was relatively large at that time, but that when the Chinese people could barely solve the problem of food and clothing, there was not such a great demand for meat products. Naturally, domestic soybeans were enough to meet demand.

Pork

As we introduced above, the problem is that as the living standards of our people improve, the demand for meat products keeps growing, and the domestic breeding industry cannot meet the domestic demand for meat products, so importing from abroad naturally became inevitable. Moreover, the prices of American agricultural products are indeed much cheaper than domestic ones. Even after adding tariffs, American pork is still cheaper than our country's pork.

For most businesses, for example large meat processing enterprises such as Shuanghui and Jinluo, why would they leave cheap pork unused and choose domestic high-priced pork? Unless these operators had water in their brains. Naturally, even if the Chinese people had no demand for this kind of pork, such meat processing enterprises would still have a very urgent demand for it.

In addition to what was mentioned above, corn and millet are also imported, but these volumes are relatively small. For example, corn is mainly imported because imported corn is cheap and of high quality, and because some corn deep-processing enterprises have special processing needs. As for wheat, the imported portion is mainly for making bread, also because our country's wheat quality is generally poor and lacks high-quality strong wheat.

Today's world has truly achieved economic globalization. While our country imports American agricultural products, the United States is likewise importing some of our country's agricultural products, for example bananas. It is precisely because of the convenience brought by economic globalization that we Chinese people use Apple phones, while the United States has used our country's cheap labor to produce phones.
