In summer, the weather is hot and the air is dry, so many flower growers start watering their plants frequently, which leads to all kinds of problems, such as rotten leaves and roots, and flowers that fail to open.

The methods for growing flowers differ from season to season. Below, Huayuan will introduce some small watering tips for caring for Crab Claw Orchid, Bougainvillea and Gloxinia, so they bloom all over their branches with big, vivid flowers.

1. Crab Claw Orchid

Crab Claw Orchid (Schlumbergera truncata) is a flower loved by many growers. It can be enjoyed both for its leaves and its flowers. It is an epiphytic succulent in the cactus family with a certain drought tolerance. In summer, when the temperature exceeds 30°C, it enters semi-dormancy. At this time, when caring for and watering it, you must know:

1. Control the number of waterings and the amount of water. You do not necessarily need to water thoroughly; keep the potting soil suitably dry. When watering, you can add 1-2 drops of edible vinegar each month to stimulate root growth, which is more helpful for getting through summer.

2. Every day you can spray some water vapor onto the leaves and around them to increase air humidity and lower the temperature.

3. Make sure the moisture on the leaves of the Crab Claw Orchid can completely evaporate every day. It is best to place it in a cool, ventilated spot.

2. Bougainvillea

Bougainvillea has been deeply loved by flower growers in recent years. Its ornamental value is very high, and its flowers can be used as medicine to regulate qi and blood, treat leukorrhea, and regulate menstruation.

Bougainvillea likes a warm, humid environment with ample light. For varieties whose flowering period is in summer, if you want them to bloom most abundantly yet evenly, with big, vivid flowers, then you must do a good job of water control before flowering:

Each time you water, wait until the potting soil is dry and the branches and leaves droop softly. Control water this way for half a month, then resume normal watering. In about a month, flower buds will appear and it will bloom. Note that during the water-control period, do not fertilize, otherwise it will cause root burn.

3. Gloxinia

Gloxinia's flowering period is from March to August, and summer is its peak blooming season. But when the temperature exceeds 30°C, it enters a semi-dormant state, which greatly affects flowering. So when caring for it, note:

During the flowering period, it needs enough water, but it must not be too moist, otherwise high temperature and high humidity can easily cause root rot. When the surface of the potting soil shows signs of turning white, you can water.

Because Gloxinia leaves have a large amount of fine hairs, water droplets stuck to them can easily cause rot. It is best to use the immersion method, letting water enter through the drainage hole at the bottom of the pot to replenish water for the Gloxinia.
