Succulents, plump and chubby, look just like adorable little babies, and are loved by many flower enthusiasts. When some succulents reach their peak condition, their leaves show a beautiful red tint amid the emerald green, delicate and charming, making them irresistible.

If your succulent leaves just won't turn red no matter how you care for them, what's the reason? Let's take a look.

Light

Red-tinged succulent leaves are inseparable from light. A succulent kept indoors for a long time, unable to receive a single ray of sunlight, will have emerald green, thin leaves, and will also be prone to leggy growth, with an unattractive plant shape.

So, expose it to more sunlight, but not harsh direct sun. You can place it on a balcony with plenty of light to grow it, so the plant shape will grow compact and prettier.

Temperature

Adequate light alone is not enough; suitable temperatures are also needed. Its suitable temperature range is 15-28°C. If the temperature is too high, it will go dormant; if too low, it will grow slowly. Under these conditions, the leaves will not turn red.

So, pay attention in summer and winter, and keep the temperature suitable, which is beneficial for its growth.

Temperature Difference

For succulent leaves to turn red, you also need to give them a temperature difference. Succulent color change is mainly related to anthocyanins and chlorophyll. The amount of anthocyanins directly affects how red the leaves become. In summer, when temperatures are on the high side, less anthocyanin is produced, and without a temperature difference, it is very hard to achieve peak coloration.

If the outdoor temperature is 8-25°C, place it outdoors, and with plenty of light, the leaves will show changes within a few days.

If the outdoor temperature is high, move it into an air-conditioned room, and it is best to keep the temperature below 30°C. If you are eager to care for it, you can also place some ice around the flower pot at night, so the temperature drops sharply, creating a temperature difference that prompts the leaves to release anthocyanins, achieving the goal of beautiful appearance.

Water Control

If all the other conditions are met and the leaves still haven't changed, then go ahead and control the soil moisture. Succulents don't consume much water themselves, so wait until the succulent has dried out completely and the dry leaves have slightly wilted before watering it again. Repeat this several times.

After watering, place it in a well-ventilated spot. Let the water evaporate faster, and do not allow water to accumulate, so the roots can spread freely and breathe well.

Once these conditions are met, your succulents will surely be emerald green and tender pink, charming in a hundred ways, and beautifully colored! Go ahead and give it a try!
