Some flower lovers especially enjoy growing flowers, and specifically flowers with an exceptionally abundant and long blooming period. Although many flowers meet the requirements, getting them to bloom wave after wave is not so easy.

Today, Hua'er introduces a flower that blooms especially easily and is known as "never dropping the ball." One pot is enough to enjoy its blooms, and it is very beautiful. It is the petunia.

Petunia (Petunia hybrida) is a perennial herbaceous plant with soft leaves in an oval shape. Its flowers come in a wide range of colors with colored edges, and the blooming period runs from April until the first frost of winter, blooming continuously with very high ornamental value, making it deeply loved by many flower lovers.

Master these few points in caring for petunias, and you can harvest a pot overflowing with flowers. Give it a try too!

1. Light

Petunia is a sun-loving plant, and both growth and blooming require sufficient light. With ample light, it takes only 100 days from sowing to blooming. In summer, it can also take full sun, though providing appropriate shade around midday is more conducive to forming more buds and producing more flowers.

2. Watering

For watering, remember the principle of "do not water until dry, and water thoroughly when you do." In the hot summer season, water frequently, once every morning and evening, and spray some water on the leaves and surroundings to increase humidity. After blooming, you can appropriately reduce watering to help extend the blooming period. Do not splash water onto the flowers, or it will cause the flowers to fade and rot.

3. Fertilizing

During the growing period, petunias grow especially fast, so fertilize frequently, mainly with nitrogen and potassium fertilizers and less phosphorus. Once a week, apply a diluted cake fertilizer solution, and you can bury some crushed eggshell powder in the soil to promote growth.

During the bud-forming stage, you can spray some 0.1% monopotassium phosphate solution on the leaves, which can make the leaves greener, speed up metabolism, and also extend the blooming period.

4. Pruning

During the growing period, you can first pinch off the growing tips once to promote the sprouting and growth of side buds. After the flowers fade, promptly cut off the spent flowers to avoid excessive nutrient consumption and prepare for continued blooming.

That is all for petunia care. If flower lovers have other additions, feel free to share them with everyone in the comments section below. To learn more about flower-growing knowledge, you can follow Huajianke!
