Location / Jinhua, Zhejiang Editor / Succulent Plant Hub Every succulent lover has a heart that loves to buy, buy, buy. The most painful thing at this point is not knowing how to plant them after bringing them home. Actually, planting succulents is just 4 steps, and you all have them, I have them, everyone has them~ Nowadays there are more and more channels for buying succulents: flower markets, Taobao, greenhouses, and shares from fellow plant lovers. How do you plant succulents that have just arrived home? I generally divide it into four steps. Dead roots buried in soil will rot and may infect the root system. How much should you trim the roots? It is hard to explain, but one photo makes it clear at a glance~ If planted directly, the wounds will not have healed enough and may become infected; root rot would then be troublesome. Never wash the roots with water. Whether or not you have trimmed the roots, the roots will be injured during the soil-removal process, and wounds exposed to water will become infected. Keep the wounds dry until they heal. As for rooting powder water, my succulents have never been soaked in it, and they still root and settle into the pot very quickly. Some people say succulents should be soaked in carbendazim water for disinfection after arriving home, but I have never used that either. Because infected wounds have a high chance of turning to mush, and removing soil and trimming roots has already blocked most pathogens. If you are really afraid your succulents have bacteria, you can mix carbendazim into the soil (it is not very useful either, just psychological comfort). Generally, succulents will consume the nutrients from their oldest leaf to grow roots. Once the oldest leaf dries up, water thoroughly, and pay attention to ventilation after watering. Usually on the second day after watering, you can gently nudge the succulent. If it does not move, it has settled into the pot. Another method is to pot in moist soil. The reason I do not recommend it is not that it is bad, but that some indicators are hard to judge: what kind of soil counts as moist soil, when to water, and so on. It is not easy for beginners to manage. Planting in dry soil and watering after one week, by contrast, has clear indicators and is easy for beginners to handle. As for veterans, plant however you like; you have more experience than I do. I should also mention the soil ratio: peat : coco peat : perlite 1:1:1. This is the most basic nutrient soil, and it can be used for seedlings and leaf propagation. Peat : granules 2:8. This is a shaping soil for mature plants, suitable for succulents with healthy roots when you want to shape them and stress their colors. As for what soil to use for your succulents, just increase or decrease the amount of granules based on these two formulas according to your succulents' condition and the condition you want. Granular soil can be maifan stone, volcanic rock, akadama, and so on, or washed and sun-exposed coal cinder, river sand, etc. I have tried all these granular soils, and there is not much difference. Do these four steps well, and the success rate of succulents settling into the pot is extremely high.
