Pothos is basically a plant that every household keeps a pot of. Although it's fairly easy to grow, it's still quite prone to the problem of yellow leaves. It is itself a foliage plant, and once the leaves turn yellow, its looks suffer greatly. Today we'll share with everyone how to deal with yellow leaves on pothos.

There are many reasons pothos leaves turn yellow, and different reasons require different treatments. Here are the most common causes of yellow pothos leaves for your reference:

1. What should you do if a newly bought pothos develops yellow leaves within a few days?

At this point, the pothos is mainly affected by environmental changes, unstable temperatures and other such reasons. Pothos is basically grown in greenhouses, and when it reaches a natural environment it goes through an adaptation process, showing yellow leaves, wilting and similar symptoms.

Treatment: Keep a newly bought pothos in a ventilated spot indoors for a week first, and don't put it in the sun yet. Once it has adapted to the environment, move it to a spot outdoors with indirect light to grow, and just mist the leaves daily with a spray bottle to raise the air humidity.

2. Yellow leaves caused by the plant being too crowded and poorly ventilated

Some gardeners may notice that their pothos is growing vigorously, then suddenly the leaves droop and turn yellow, especially during the vigorous growth period, when pothos grows very fast. When you find the pothos in the pot packed so tightly there's no room for air to pass, it's time to consider dividing or repotting. When the plant is too dense and poorly ventilated, the nutrient supply is insufficient, and this very easily causes pothos leaves to turn yellow.

Treatment: Repot or divide promptly. From a pothos plant that is growing too densely, simply pull out some seedlings and grow them separately in water or soil in their own pot. After division, the pothos should first be placed in a ventilated, shady spot for 2-5 days to recover before returning to normal care.

3. Too much or too little fertilizer

Many people who grow pothos may never fertilize it, but others fertilize often. Whether it's too much or too little fertilizer, both can cause pothos leaves to turn yellow.

Symptoms of yellow leaves from too much fertilizer: yellowing and scorching starting from the leaf tips

Treatment: Stop fertilizing immediately. If the fertilizer damage is severe, the soil needs to be replaced entirely.

Symptoms of yellow leaves from lack of fertilizer: apart from newly sprouted leaves, entire old leaves turn yellow

Treatment: Supplement fertilizer promptly. You can dissolve a few granules of compound fertilizer in water and pour it directly at the roots, or water with fermented rice-washing water. If the pothos is grown in water, add a little water-culture nutrient solution. Pay attention to the amount, and apply light fertilizer frequently.

Besides the 3 points above, when pothos suffers root rot from overwatering, yellow leaves will also appear. In summer, when caring for pothos, note that you can mist the leaves daily to increase air humidity, keep the potting soil just slightly moist, and avoid exposing it to strong sun, and your pothos will stay a lush green!
