Orchid leaves have an elegant form and are not only highly ornamental, but lush, healthy orchid leaves are also the prerequisite for good flowering. However, improper cultivation and management can cause a physiological disorder in orchid leaves, with burnt leaf tips, affecting the plant's normal growth and ornamental value. Burnt leaf tips are a common symptom in orchids, and the causes can be divided into the following:

1. Improper watering amount. Excessive pot moisture or water accumulating in the pot for several days during the plum rain season causes the roots to become muddy and wet and prone to rot, resulting in burnt tips on old seedlings. Prevention and control method: water at the right time and in the right amount, shelter from rain during the plum rain season, and strengthen ventilation.

2. Improper watering time. Watering at noon in summer, when the temperature difference between the water and the potting soil is too great, hinders the normal physiological activity of the root system, weakens the roots' absorption of water, produces physiological drought, and causes orchid leaf tips to burn. Prevention and control method: in summer, water in the morning and evening when the water temperature is close to the potting soil temperature.

3. High summer temperatures, poor ventilation, and overheating of the potting soil cause the orchid roots to overheat and the tips to burn. Prevention and control method: spray water on the surrounding environment, increase ventilation and shade density to lower the temperature.

4. In early summer and autumn, windy and dry weather with high water evaporation and excessively dry air causes new seedlings' tips to burn. Prevention and control method: promptly spray water and mist on the leaves, the pot surface and the surrounding space to increase air humidity.

5. Improper fertilization. Fertilizing too strongly or too heavily injures the root system, causing water to flow backward and the tips to burn. Prevention and control method: immediately remove the plant from the pot, wash the roots with clean water, and after drying, replace the soil and repot.

6. Fresh sawdust or other undecomposed organic matter mixed into the potting soil. After repotting and watering, the fresh sawdust and other undecomposed organic matter generate heat during fermentation and decomposition, scorching the orchid roots and causing burnt tips. Prevention and control method: use fully decomposed materials when preparing potting soil.

7. When repotting, dead and rotten roots are not pruned cleanly and the planting material is not clean, affecting the growth and development of new roots and causing burnt tips on new leaves. Prevention and control method: thoroughly remove diseased and rotten roots, and add 50% carbendazim for disinfection when preparing the potting soil.

8. Unbalanced fertilization. Potassium fertilizer is an indispensable nutrient element for orchid growth and development, usually distributed in the most vigorously growing young buds, tender leaves, root tips and other parts. When the plant is severely deficient in potassium, the plant becomes shorter and the leaves are prone to scorch-like damage. Prevention and control method: add an appropriate amount of plant ash extract or potassium dihydrogen phosphate, etc., when fertilizing. Once orchid leaves are damaged, it is not conducive to growth, so management must be strengthened during cultivation, with prevention as the priority.
