As a balcony gardener, growing only flowers is not enough; you have to grow some fruit on the balcony too. There are many fruits you can grow on a balcony, but not every one of them will necessarily bear fruit. Take strawberries, for example: what you grow may not even be enough for yourself to eat, and growing grapes takes up too much space. Today I want to recommend a fruit that is very suitable for growing on a balcony: passion fruit. It contains a lot of nutritional value, is very nutrient-rich, and its yield is also very high. More importantly, passion fruit is a fruit that can be eaten in the same year it is planted.

You can buy ready-made seedlings online, or ask a friend for a branch and stick it directly into a flowerpot. It is very simple to grow and will root quickly. It is a fruit tree very suitable for home growing. Passion fruit is a tropical and subtropical perennial evergreen climbing plant, native to southern Brazil. Passion fruit has wide adaptability, grows easily and vigorously, is cold-resistant and heat-tolerant, and has very few pests and diseases. Planted in the same year, it is harvested in the same year, making it a very easy plant to manage.

As a tropical fruit, passion fruit likes plenty of sunlight to promote vine growth and nutrient accumulation. Long-day conditions are favorable for passion fruit flowering. When passion fruit has good vegetative growth, more nutrients accumulate, the vines grow quickly, and it fruits early and yields abundantly. The most suitable growing temperature is 20°C to 30°C. Generally, it grows well at temperatures not lower than 0°C, and at -2°C the plant will suffer severe damage and may even die.

Passion fruit is generally planted in spring, begins flowering around July, and by September you can eat the fruit. By the second year, it starts fruiting from April, so you can eat it several times a year. Moreover, a single passion fruit plant has a very high fruiting rate, absolutely enough for a whole family to eat.
