Snake plant (Sansevieria) and asparagus fern (Asparagus setaceus)can purify the air and absorb cooking fumes and formaldehyde in the home. The asparagus fern has an elegant form and great ornamental value; whether placed in a study or a living room, it brings a rich literary and artistic feel. They can also grow very well in places with insufficient light, and they are very easy to care for. Care for them this way and they will easily fill the pot:

1. Asparagus fern likes a moist, warm environment, but you must not overwater it at ordinary times. Water only when you see the potting soil is dry. It must be placed in a spot with bright, indirect light and must not be exposed to harsh sun. In spring and autumn, apply a small amount of organic fertilizer water or fermented rice-washing water once a month, and it will grow lush branches and leaves.

2. Asparagus fern is not cold-tolerant, so getting through winter is key. In winter it must not be placed outdoors or on a terrace; it must be kept in a warm, wind-sheltered, sunny spot in the home. Control watering so that too much water does not cause cold damage, which easily leads to root rot and yellow leaves. As long as the temperature reaches 5°C, it can safely overwinter.

3. When the summer temperature exceeds 20°C, the hot, stuffy and humid environment is not suitable for the growth of asparagus fern. Be sure to place the asparagus fern in a cool place and open the windows every day to ventilate and lower the temperature, so its branches and leaves stay tender green and beautiful in summer. As long as you pay attention to these points, asparagus fern can be grown for many years and can even be brought into bloom.

4. Snake plant (Sansevieria) is drought-tolerant and tough. At ordinary times you can water it less; do not water too frequently or too much. Waterlogging will cause rotten leaves and roots. It must not be exposed to harsh sun in summer, but it can take sun in other seasons. Overwintering is the same as for asparagus fern: place it in a warm, sunny place without cold drafts.

5. During the growing season, it can appropriately get more sun. Each time give a little decomposed soybean fertilizer, soybean cake water, chicken manure fertilizer, etc., just a small amount at a time, and it will send up many small shoots and grow vigorously. It may even bloom.

6. For these two, as long as you pay attention to keeping them warm in winter, master watering at ordinary times, and fertilize once in a while, with simple care and no need to be overzealous, they will easily grow into a full pot.
