Dragon bone is not a universal grafting rootstock, don't be fooled

Dragon bone is a universal grafting rootstock. I wonder if you have ever heard this saying. In fact, this is very wrong. Don't be fooled. Dragon bone is not a "universal rootstock." Why? Let's analyze it in detail.
Dragon bone is a plant in the Euphorbiaceae family and can only be grafted with green plants in the Euphorbiaceae family, such as crown of thorns (Euphorbia milii), Euphorbia nerifolia, etc. This is my grafting with dragon bone, oh, crown of thorns. What many people call a "universal rootstock" should be the three-ribbed cactus (Hylocereus undatus), which looks very similar to dragon bone
Grafting crown of thorns onto dragon bone
The three-ribbed cactus is a plant in the Cactaceae family. It is generally used for grafting Christmas cactus, Schlumbergera, ball cacti, etc. It is a very common grafting rootstock. Grafting with the three-ribbed cactus has good compatibility, is relatively easy to survive, has good support, is simple to graft, and grows fast. Therefore, it is an ideal grafting rootstock in the minds of many people.
Let me talk about my own steps and experience in grafting Christmas cactus onto the three-ribbed cactus.
When grafting Christmas cactus onto the three-ribbed cactus, you can graft at the top or graft on the side.
For top grafting, first cut off part of the top of the three-ribbed cactus and flatten the top. Near the pith, make a deep cut of about 1 cm in the three-ribbed cactus. Cut both sides of the Christmas cactus to expose the cambium.
Then insert it into the cut in the three-ribbed cactus, then secure it with a toothpick or a cactus spine.
The three-ribbed cactus has three ribs. Graft all of them using this method. For the Christmas cactus leaf segments being grafted, it is best to use a single segment, so that it can supply growth to the Christmas cactus and grow faster. If a multi-segment Christmas cactus is grafted, it will recover more slowly.
After grafting onto the three-ribbed cactus, it can grow in about 7 days, and its growth is very fast, without delaying flowering that year.
