Newly bought gardenias with wilted leaves - actually, this problem is very common. So how should this situation be remedied? Today let's briefly talk about it

With our newly bought gardenia, you can carefully observe the potting soil. It is generally very hard yellow clay soil. After watering, the water immediately runs out and does not soak through, and there are not many nutrients either, so repotting is necessary.

You can also observe the roots of the gardenia. They are generally broken roots. This is because the gardenias in the greenhouse are all grown in the ground. In order to sell them, the roots are directly cut off and put into pots. These two situations alone are enough to cause severe damage to the gardenia's root system, so wilting and yellow leaves are very normal.

When we buy them, they generally come with flower buds. Let them finish blooming first. If the leaves are wilted, you can use the method of soaking the pot in water, soaking the gardenia in a basin of water for half an hour, so it can be watered thoroughly. After a few hours, the leaves will stand up and bloom. Then, place it in a place with plenty of scattered light and let it bloom. After it finishes blooming, promptly prune off the spent flowers.

Then repot it, using loose, breathable and fertile soil to grow it. You can use leaf mold, large-grained river sand and garden soil in a 4:2:1 ratio to plant it, or you can use peat soil, perlite and vermiculite in a 4:1:1 ratio to plant it. Soil like this is loose, breathable and fertile, very suitable for the growth of gardenias.

When repotting, you can pot it with bare roots, that is, soak the original yellow clay soil off the gardenia with water to reduce damage to the root system. Then, hold the gardenia plant with one hand and slowly fill soil into the pot with the other hand, gently shaking the potting soil evenly. Do not let the roots be squeezed together; try to let the roots spread out inside.

After repotting, water thoroughly. It is best to cover it with a plastic bag to keep it moist, poke a few holes in the bag, and place it in a place with scattered light. After about 7 days, the gardenia can recover. During this period, there will definitely still be fallen leaves and yellow leaves, but after repotting they will gradually decrease.

When the gardenia is clearly growing, you can gradually let it receive light, about three or four hours of exposure per day is enough. This way, the gardenia's leaves will start to become dark green and grow vigorously, and basically there will no longer be yellow leaves or wilting.
