Dianthus

Flowering period: April-October

Flower stems slender like bamboo, verdant in clumps;

Petals have rich velvet-like fringed edges, texture like velvet;

Flower colors like rosy clouds, rich and varied.

Recommended viewing spots: Wanping Lake, Ludu Park, Century Forest Park.

Daylily

Flowering period: May-July

Though the daylily is a modest flower, its solitary grace stands out.

Amid the graceful tangle of leaves, each fragrant heart is planted.

Recommended viewing spots: a common flower in roadside green belts.

Corn poppy

Flowering period: March-August

The corn poppy, also called the "rival of the peony", has a graceful form,

the only kind of flower where splendor and understated elegance coexist,

truly a fine specimen among flowers and grasses.

Pomegranate flower

Flowering period: May-June

In May the pomegranate blooms red as fire,

meaning the pomegranate flowers blooming in May are red like flames.

Recommended viewing spots: the residential living area at the East Palace Gate of the Summer Palace, inside the former residence of Song Qingling near Shichahai.

Petunia

Flowering period: June-October

I always thought summer belonged to moss rose,

but it turns out petunias are not far behind at all,

no matter how fierce the summer sun,

they still tirelessly show off their elegance.

Recommended viewing spots: a common flower in roadside green belts.

Zinnia

Flowering period: June-October

A bright large flower head opens at the top,

from below the top flower head side branches emerge,

and at the tips of the side branches new flowers form,

each flower higher than the last.

Recommended viewing spots: Tiankai Flower Sea in Hancunhe, Fangshan.

Crape myrtle

Flowering period: June-September

Crape myrtle blooms for a hundred days of red,

a gentle touch on the branch makes the whole tree quiver,

hence it is also called the ticklish tree.

Sage

Flowering period: June-September

Sage is a beautiful misunderstanding,

often mistaken for lavender,

its fragrance is not as strong as lavender's,

its flower color is deeper than lavender's.

Recommended viewing spot: Chaoyang Blue Note Manor; it is suggested not to buy a ticket.

Hibiscus

Flowering period: June-October

Leaves like mulberry leaves in tender green, flowers in vivid red, dazzling to the eye.
