Last time we introduced the common types of pests and diseases. Seeing flowers and plants tormented into those states, how could your heart not ache~How do you prevent trouble before it happens? How do you nip diseases in the bud in time?Although control cannot be generalized, we can still start with some common pests. Come and take a look~

Piercing-sucking pests

Aphids, red spider mites, whiteflies, scale insects, thrips, stink bugs, etc.

Red spider mite

Aphid

Thrips

Whitefly

Stink bug

This type of pest uses its needle-like mouthparts to pierce and suck the sap from flower tissues, causing curled leaves, galls, or the appearance of small grayish-yellow spots on leaves, or yellowing and withering of leaves and branches, and other symptoms.

Control methods:Spray 40% omethoate 1000-1500 times dilution; except for scale insects, other pests can also be sprayed with 2.5% deltamethrin 2500-3000 times dilution; to control red spider mites, you can also spray 20% dicofol 1000 times dilution.

Leaf-eating pests

Larvae of nettle grubs, bagworms, leaf-roller moths, noctuid moths, hawk moths, prominent moths, lappet moths, swallowtail butterflies, white butterflies, etc., as well as scarab beetles, weevils, sawflies, etc.

Three-section sawfly

Copper-green scarab beetle

Leaf-rolling weevil

Dead-leaf butterfly

This type of pestuses chewing mouthparts to feed on solid food. Some bite leaves into incomplete fragments, some roll leaves to cause damage, some eat all the leaves leaving only the thick veins, and so on.

Control methods: 1. Manually destroy overwintering cocoons or protective bags, etc. 2. In the early hatching stage of larvae, spray 90% trichlorfon or 50% phoxim or 50% fenitrothion 1000 times dilution. 3. To control scarab beetles and sawflies, manual capture and killing can also be used.

Trunk-boring pests

Longhorn beetles, carpenter moths, jewel beetles, stem sawflies, etc.

Longhorn beetle

Stem sawfly

Jewel beetle

They bore into flower and tree branches and stems to feed, creating holes or tunnels.

Control methods: Different types of trunk-boring pests have different control methods, but they share common control methods, namelyyou can insert a steel wire into the insect hole to stab the larvae to death, or inject 80% dichlorvos or 40% omethoate 20-50 times dilution from the insect hole, and immediately seal the insect hole with sticky mud after injection to poison the larvae; to control longhorn beetles, you can also manually capture and kill adults; to control carpenter moths, use light traps to kill adult moths; to control jewel beetles, you can also take advantage of the adults' death-feigning habit and manually shake branches in the early morning to capture and kill them, etc.

Undergroundpests

White grubs, mole crickets, cutworms, wireworms, large crickets, root maggots, etc.

Large cricket

Mole cricket

Underground pests refer to pests that damage flower roots or the main stem near the soil surface in the soil.Commonly known as tree lice, they have many species and damage many kinds of flowers, such as figs, Chinese roses, peonies, rugosa roses, hydrangeas, camellias, mulberries, etc. Affected plants grow slowly and their branches and leaves turn yellow and wither. At the same time, the large amount of honeydew excreted by scale insects can also induce sooty mold disease.

Control methods: 1. Check promptly and control early. When the number of insects is small, you can use a bristle brush or bamboo slice tomanually brush them off or cut off the affected branches and leavesand burn them in a concentrated manner. 2. Take 1 part each of cigarette butts and ash from an ashtray, add 40-50 parts water, soak for 1 day and night, mash and filter, then spray. It has a certain effect on newly hatched scale insects. 3. You can refer to the control measures for whiteflies.

In fact, the appearance of plant pests and diseases is mostly caused by problems in the plant's growing environment.Soil, drainage, ventilation, light and so on are all very important! I hope everyone's plants can grow healthily~
