How to grow potted cyclamen: summer care is the key

Just hearing the name cyclamen gives people a very comfortable feeling of warmth and hospitality. Cyclamen is suitable for placing in the living room, bedroom and study. Cyclamen is also known as monk's hood flower; its flower shape resembles rabbit ears, the flowers are solitary, the buds droop, and when they bloom they gradually lift up and stand upright. Now let's look at how to grow cyclamen in pots from several aspects~

Growing habits
The suitable temperature for cyclamen is between 15-22°C, and the temperature difference between day and night should be kept at 8-10°C. If the nighttime temperature is controlled between 7-8°C, it can still bloom, but the flowering period will be slightly delayed; if the temperature is below 5°C, it will not bloom normally.

Light and temperature control
Summer care. Temperature and light have the greatest influence on the growth and development of cyclamen. Changes in climate, suitable temperature and light will make cyclamen grow a batch of flower stalks and continue to bloom. South of the Yangtze River, the leaves gradually turn yellow after May, which is a reaction brought by rising temperatures; at this time watering needs to be controlled. In summer, during the high-temperature weather of midsummer, if conditions permit, cooling equipment should be used to lower the ambient temperature. When the temperature exceeds 28°C in early summer, the cyclamen corm will enter dormancy. Poor management during dormancy will directly cause the corm to dry up or rot, so safely getting through summer becomes the difficult point in cyclamen cultivation.

Soil selection
For the soil used in potted cyclamen, you can use humus soil, forest leaf mold, honeycomb coal cinders, etc., and add an appropriate amount of calcium carbonate to blend the soil. Loose and fertile soil is most suitable for the growth of cyclamen. When planting, pay attention to the size of the container, and gradually increase the pot volume as the plant grows for care.
Fertilizing method
Cyclamen likes fertile soil, but does not like concentrated fertilizer. Apply some base fertilizer when repotting and planting. Generally, fertilize once a week or once every two weeks, and be sure to apply thin fertilizer frequently. After several months of vegetative growth, apply organic fertilizer to it, and water the flowers by sprinkling water. When the high temperature in summer makes temperature control impossible, fertilization must be stopped.

Watering method
Cyclamen is relatively drought-tolerant, but cyclamen in the vigorous growth period should keep the soil moist, and note that waterlogging must not occur when watering. Water frequently but lightly, and do not let it get too wet. If the plant does not go dormant in summer, normal watering can be carried out, and the soil needs to be kept moist. After the Start of Autumn, the plant enters the reproductive growth period; at this time, mainly phosphorus and potassium fertilizer should be applied to control vegetative growth, promote flower bud differentiation, and nurture flowering.
