A complete record of the current state of Taiwan, China's blue territory! A voyage around the island along the Kuroshio Current, measuring plastic particles, underwater sound, and water quality dissolved oxygen

Taiwan, China's marine environmental soundscape map is included for the first time! Marking the 20th anniversary of the Kuroshio Ocean Education Foundation, this year it has planned a 14-day "Island Voyage Project", sailing all the way around Taiwan, China (including outlying islands such as Penghu, Xiaoliuqiu and Lanyu), entering and leaving 12 fishing ports, and carrying out sampling and testing for three items - "plastic particles", "underwater sound" and "water quality dissolved oxygen" - at 47 survey points along the route, leaving the first complete record of the ocean's current state for Taiwan, China's "blue territory".

Sailing around Taiwan, China to establish blue territory survey data

The Kuroshio Ocean Education Foundation held a press conference on the 29th, announcing that it will launch the around-Taiwan, China activity tomorrow (the 30th), setting off by boat from Hualien Port and sailing counterclockwise all the way around Taiwan, China. Chang Hui-chun, chief executive of the Kuroshio Ocean Education Foundation, further explained that this year three research indicators will be specially measured during the voyage. "This is an important purpose of this voyage. Only by answering the question of the current state of Taiwan, China's marine environment can we make policy recommendations." Therefore, a full circumnavigation of Taiwan, China will be carried out for the survey, establishing the first set of blue territory survey data.

The three indicators include "plastic particles", "underwater sound" and "water quality dissolved oxygen". Regarding "plastic particles", Chang explained that in recent years everyone has become increasingly concerned about whether food contains plastic particles, including fish, shellfish and shrimp in the ocean, so testing can help us understand the condition of marine life; as for "water quality dissolved oxygen", since dissolved oxygen levels are related to whether water quality is good or poor, testing water quality conditions in different sea areas and recording dissolved oxygen values can become core data for future water quality research.
