Flowers need a quick hard prune, and they will burst into bloom again in just one month

Flowers & Gardening 0 views
Many flowers, like petunias and Chinese roses, can bloom several times a year. And if you prune properly and in time, you can shorten the time it takes for them to burst into bloom again! Today, Huahua will tell you the tricks to shorten the time to a full bloom, so hurry up and learn them!

Petunia

1. Although some gardeners' petunias bloom a lot, the flowers open along the edge of the pot and the top is empty. If you want the next bloom to form a full sphere, you need to prune after the flowers fade.

2. Use scissors to cut off the overly long flowering branches along the edge of the pot, so the branch length just reaches or stays short of the pot's edge.

3. After cutting the overly long branches, you will find some spots in the pot have no flowering branches. Cut off the branches above the empty spots as well, to control top growth and encourage the lower branches to sprout.

4. Try to let the branches cover the whole pot; the side shoots that grow later will fill the empty spots, so you must not be reluctant to cut the branches.

5. After pruning, place the petunia in a ventilated spot for care.

6. Do not throw away the cut branches; use them for cuttings, and you can harvest a whole bunch of petunias!

Marguerite daisy

1. There are two ways to prune marguerite daisies after flowering.

2. To make them bloom quickly, you can cut off the spent flowering branches, then cut off the tops of the overall branches to encourage sprouting.

3. If you want more flowers next time and a fuller plant shape, you can leave only 15-20 cm of the marguerite daisy branches and cut off all the rest.

4. To ensure a full plant shape when blooming, keep pinching the newly grown branches and buds.

5. Do not throw away the cut branch tips; cut off the leftover flowers at the tips and use them for cuttings.

6. After cutting, place them in filtered light for care. In about 10-15 days, the marguerite daisy cuttings will take root.

Chinese rose

1. When the Chinese rose is about to finish blooming, prune it in time, so it can store nutrients and prepare for the next bloom.

2. Find the second leaf below the Chinese rose flower, and about 1 cm below this leaf, cut off the branch with the faded flower at an angle.

3. The weak and thin branches of the Chinese rose should be cut off as well, and branches growing downward or horizontally should also be cut off. This reduces nutrient consumption and increases ventilation and light for the Chinese rose.

4. To make it bloom as soon as possible, you can use fermented rice water when watering, about once every 2 weeks.

5. Cut the removed branches into 5-10 cm lengths, insert them into soil or grow them in water, and they will take root in about 10 days!

Kalanchoe

1. When pruning kalanchoe, find the third pair of leaves below the flower and cut 0.5 cm above the third pair of leaves.

2. Place the pruned kalanchoe in a filtered-light, ventilated spot for care. After about 7 days, move it to a windowsill or balcony with plenty of light. To encourage blooming, you can bury a few granules of compound fertilizer in the soil.

3. Process the cut kalanchoe branches and cut them into small sections about 5 cm long, making sure each section has a pair of leaves.

4. After the processed branch sections are dried in a ventilated spot, insert them into soil and place them in filtered light for care. They will take root in about 2-3 weeks.
