Garlic prices have been sluggish recently. Is there still a chance for garlic prices to rebound this year?

Due to the overly large garlic planting area last year and the fact that new garlic is now hitting the market this year, garlic prices have been declining steadily overall. Judging from the garlic market in Jinxiang, Shandong over the past few days, prices have already entered the range of one yuan per jin. You should know that this is still the price at which garlic traders move their goods, and the purchase price for farmers is even lower.
It is understood that the purchase price for dry garlic in the hands of garlic farmers is generally 6-8 mao, while for wet garlic it is between 4-6 mao per jin. It can be said that this price has hit a new low in nearly four years.
Judging from the recent trend of garlic, the market is still not optimistic. Late-maturing garlic in Henan, Hebei, Shandong and other regions has been harvested one after another, and some impatient farmers, seeing the current garlic market, are eager to get rid of their garlic as soon as possible. This has made the already ample garlic supply even more loose, with a surge of garlic flooding into the market in the short term, which naturally makes it hopeless for garlic prices to rebound at this stage.
However, one thing garlic farmers need to understand is that the garlic supply this year is indeed relatively loose. In urban markets and supermarkets, what is being sold is last year's old garlic rather than this year's new garlic, which also shows that garlic is destined not to have a good market this year. After all, last year's garlic has to be used up first.
As for this year's garlic, affected by the recent continuous rainy weather in the north, the garlic maggot pest in the fields is very serious, which has caused a significant decline in the quality and yield of garlic this year. However, given the increase in the area of newly marketed garlic this year, the overall garlic supply this year will still remain relatively loose.
However, for farmers who want to sell their garlic, Science Xingnong would like to give a reminder here: do not rush to sell garlic in the near term. The current market price is already very low. For most garlic farmers, at the current price, a loss of 1500 yuan per mu is quite common. The price is also relatively low, and the newly marketed garlic has put pressure on prices. You can continue to store the garlic. After all, there is still more than four months before the garlic cold storage is closed, and perhaps the opportunity will appear while you wait.
