Green plants in pots are essential decorations for home life, beautifying the room while also lifting the spirits. Keeping some flowers and plants at home brings many benefits. "Flower Sound Potted Plant Diary · Issue 1020" introduces you to a super beautiful potted flower.

Today's star

Before I saw this flower, I had always thought that Persian buttercup (Ranunculus asiaticus) and double-flowered Eustoma were the most beautiful potted flowers, a lovely sight wherever they were placed. Later, in a flower garden, I came across her - the tuberous begonia, with large, brilliantly colored flowers and full, layered blooms, full of ethereal charm. I immediately marveled that such a beautiful flower could exist; it was love at first sight.

Tuberous begonia

The tuberous begonia is a perennial plant of the genus Begonia in the family Begoniaceae. It looks very much like a herbaceous plant, but is actually a small shrub, with a plant form somewhat like the bamboo-leaf begonia, though the flowers are different. This flower has many varieties and diverse flower forms, including single and double, with rich colors such as red, deep red, bright red, rose red, yellow, apricot yellow, white and pink; the flowers are extremely beautiful.

Extremely beautiful

The double-flowered tuberous begonia has a flower shape either like a peony or like a rose, with standard petal form and proper bloom presentation. It combines the merits of posture, color and fragrance of famous flowers such as camellia, peony and rose, with brilliant colors and graceful bearing. Compared with famous flowers such as roses, peonies and camellias, it is in no way inferior, and has been given the title of "the most beautiful begonia."

Trailing tuberous begonia

There are generally two kinds of tuberous begonias for potted display, upright-growing ones and trailing-cultivated ones. Both have their own characteristics and are easy to cultivate. The flowering period is generally in spring and autumn, but plants of the genus Begonia all have very long flowering periods; for example, Rieger begonia and bamboo-leaf begonia bloom in all four seasons, and the tuberous begonia is much the same. With proper care, flowers can be seen in spring, summer, autumn and winter.

Very easy to grow

The tuberous begonia is a tuberous plant, with tubers growing underground. Such plants all have strong sprouting and reproductive capacity; for example, onions, narcissus and garlic all belong to this type of plant. The tuberous begonia is not cold-tolerant and not heat-tolerant; in summer it needs shade, and in northern regions in winter the tubers must be dug up and stored indoors to overwinter. In the other seasons it can be cared for extensively and is very easy to grow.

Worth having

The tuberous begonia is a plant introduced from abroad. The domestic horticultural breeding base is weak, and good varieties have not been bred, so generally imported foreign seeds are used for cultivation. A relatively reliable one is the Fortune series produced by the Japanese company Sakata, which grows quickly and blooms early, suitable for beginners to grow. Cultivate it once and enjoy flowers every year; it is a rare fine ornamental potted plant.
