After falling into the succulent hobby, I often despise myself for becoming petty and stingy, for going back on my word. Every time I leaf-propagate, I always announce grandly in the succulent lovers' group that I'll give away freebies, but when the leaf cuttings actually grow, I hem and haw, dodge and hide, acting like a deadbeat! It feels like a ten-month pregnancy, so reluctant to part with them!

More than three years before and after falling into the hobby, growing succulents has already become a daily routine, so there's no point talking about tips anymore! Just like raising a child, the process is always more important than the result!

When buying succulents, I always place orders after seeing others' photos of them in full color. Most of them get potted up looking ugly, and I look forward to the day they become the succulents in others' eyes. But soil mix, nutrients, light, and wind all vary. Waiting and waiting, hoping and hoping, days pass one by one... some turn out as wished, some die young, some stay ugly. Yet the owner's state of mind grows calmer day by day! Beautiful or ugly, they're all my succulents!

I remember when my child was in elementary school, he wrote an essay titled "My Flower-Fool Mom." Amid teasing and complaining, he blamed me for loving flowers more than loving him. Yet at the end of the essay, he compared himself to a happy flower, pure and joyful!

Go out for half a lifetime, and return still a youth! What a luxurious wish! Life is unsatisfactory eight or nine times out of ten. How do you keep a sincere heart forever? Looking back on my half lifetime, I've been lucky and happy. Thanks to this father and son, who have always given me the time and energy to do the things I love!

My child is about to spread his wings and fly high. To pass the imperial exam with honors and achieve fame and success would of course be wonderful, but little do they know, I would rather he find a good partner. A happy life inevitably requires a happy family! Because only a happy family can make it possible for you to go out for half a lifetime and return still a youth!
