To grow jasmine and have it bloom again and again, or even bloom N times a year, you need to stay busy. With 2 rounds of routine "hands-on" care, jasmine can bloom 4 times. Also, as long as you are diligent with hands-on care, jasmine will not develop yellow leaves, and it will bloom better year after year.

The first round of "hands-on" care: pruning

Jasmine blooms most vigorously when the plant is 3~6 years old, after which it ages year by year, so it needs timely heavy pruning for renewal. Before sprouting in spring, the previous year's branches can be cut back appropriately, keeping 10~15 cm at the base. If the new branches grow very vigorously, they should be pinched when they reach 10 cm to encourage a second flush of new shoots. Note: pruning should be done on a sunny day, can be combined with thinning the leaves, and diseased branches should be removed at the same time.

The second round of "hands-on" care: fertilizing

Jasmine is a plant that sends out new shoots multiple times a year, forms buds multiple times, and blooms year-round, so it has a very high nutrient demand. Keeping the potting soil rich in nutrients is an important guarantee for jasmine to bloom abundantly. For potted jasmine, organic liquid fertilizer is good for topdressing, but it is best to use a flower-specific organic nutrient solution rich in nitrogen, phosphorus, and potassium. The most suitable time to apply topdressing is when the potting soil has just turned pale on the surface and small cracks have just appeared around the pot wall.

When the new shoots begin to sprout, use organic nutrient solution diluted 500 times with water and water it once every 7 days. As blooming approaches, the concentration of the organic nutrient solution can be increased, watering once every 3 days. When the second and third batches of flowers open, since the temperature is suitable, there are many flowers and growth is vigorous, topdressing can be applied once every 1~2 days. After that, gradually control fertilizer and water, otherwise it will be difficult to get through the winter.

In the process of caring for jasmine, the most common problem for flower lovers is yellowing leaves. So why do jasmine leaves turn yellow? How should they be saved? If potted jasmine is not managed properly, leaf yellowing often occurs, and at this time you need to "take action" to deal with it:

(1) Overwatering

Jasmine likes moisture but fears waterlogging. If the potting soil remains too wet for a long time, it will lack oxygen and cause root rot, yellow leaves, and even plant death. In this situation, flower lovers need to act quickly, move the jasmine to a cool place, strictly control watering (if the potting soil is not too dry, do not water again), and frequently loosen the potting soil to improve its aeration. In this way, after some time the plant will gradually grow new roots and the leaves will turn green again.

(2) Soil leaning alkaline

Jasmine likes acidic soil. If water and soil containing more salt are used to grow jasmine, its branches and leaves are prone to becoming withered and yellow. During the growing period, applying a dilute ferrous sulfate aqueous solution can save it.

(3) Insufficient nutrient supply

If the potting soil has not been changed and fertilizer has not been applied for a long time, nutrients will be in short supply, causing jasmine leaves to turn yellow. In this situation, the plant can be repotted into fertile, loose sandy loam, and organic nutrient solution can be applied regularly. The concentration must not be too strong; generally diluting 500 times is enough, and before long the jasmine will grow normally.
