Many gardening enthusiasts are most troubled by fungus gnats, especially on herbaceous flowers and seedlings. After fungus gnats appear, plants suffer various diseases and wilting, and the most infuriating part is that they just won't go away no matter how you try to drive them off; after you catch some, they come back again before long. When you run into these fungus gnats, what should you do? Let's take a look!

There are insects in the potting soil"

-Soil should be treated before use-

Whether you dig the soil yourself or buy it from the market, it is best to treat it before use. If you dig leaf mold from the woods yourself, it already contains quite a few insect eggs and pathogens, and using it directly may bring them home and even spread them to other flowers.

Spread the leaf mold you dug up at home out in the sun for a few days, and the insects and pathogens in it will be greatly reduced. If you grow flowers with this kind of leaf mold and there are no pests or diseases, the root system will be very strong.

Some gardening enthusiasts also put it in a plastic bag, add a little soil insecticide or other insecticide, mix it well, tie the bag shut, and leave it in the sun to bake, which cleans up the pests very thoroughly.

-Fungus gnats in the flowerpot-

Fungus gnats are very annoying and always tend to come back. In fact, this has something to do with the care environment; in a poorly ventilated, damp and shady environment, fungus gnats easily appear. Many carnivorous plants themselves require a humid environment, and this type of plant easily gets fungus gnats.

After fungus gnats appear, you can use some plant-based insecticides. There is also a simpler method, which is to use mosquito coils or electric mosquito repellent.

If it is an enclosed balcony, just close the doors and windows, run an extension cord over, light a mosquito coil or plug in an electric mosquito repellent, and the next day you will hardly see any flying insects. Since fungus gnats can hatch a new generation in just a few days, using it once more after a few days will clean them up completely.

Here, electric mosquito repellent is more recommended because it is a bit safer. You can also cover the flowerpot with a large plastic bag, then put the electric mosquito repellent inside and let it fumigate for a while, and the fungus gnats will be cleaned up quickly.

For other pests, such as aphids and red spider mites, after spraying, you can also use a plastic bag to achieve twice the result with half the effort!

If your flowerpot soil also has insects

then come and give it a try!

Show it to gardening enthusiasts who need it!
