Many plant lovers dream of living surrounded by trailing vines, sipping tea in the midday sun, watching the branches and vines of windowsill plants dance in the wind, a flavor all its own. There is a succulent that can be grown hanging, bursting into a pot full of strings, cute and beautiful, no less lovely than pothos. If you don't believe it, keep reading.

1. Choosing a pot

String of Pearls (Senecio rowleyanus) is generally grown in hanging pots. For beginner succulent growers, a self-watering pot can be used; usually this kind of pot has synthetic fiber wicks at the bottom, and this water-absorbing type is best, as it saves you the trouble of going up to water the String of Pearls succulent.

During care, this kind of pot usually has only one drainage hole at the bottom; you can make another opening yourself so excess water can flow out and prevent the String of Pearls from having its roots soaked.

2. Planting method

Step one: when potting, first fill the pot with soil, leaving a 2-3 cm gap at the rim of the pot, coil all the stems into the pot, then cover with soil on top, about 0.5-1 cm thick. Do not cover completely with soil; sprinkling it on fairly evenly and lightly is enough.

Step two: after covering with soil, water thoroughly with a shower head, then place it in a slightly shaded, mildly ventilated spot for care, and wait for the String of Pearls to establish.

Step three: once the String of Pearls has rooted, you can begin normal care. After the new stems root, you can keep coiling them back into the pot, or cut them off with scissors and toss them into the center of the pot to let them grow slowly; this way the pot becomes completely full of plump String of Pearls.

3. Pruning

How do you prune String of Pearls? Pruning should be heavy. At the mention of pruning, many plant lovers get indecisive, thinking the String of Pearls finally grew this long, and their heart is full of a thousand objections - that is a big mistake! String of Pearls needs cut, cut, cut to burst into a full pot. You can start cutting from the rim of the pot, or even a little inside the rim.

After pruning, you must give the String of Pearls supplemental fertilizer; this is a very necessary point. When fertilizing, do not use strong chemical fertilizers, as they easily harm succulents. Use a plant-fermented organic nutrient solution, which can help String of Pearls burst into a full pot!
