Introduction
Potted green plants are essential decorations for home life, both beautifying the room and delighting the mind. Keeping some flowers and plants at home has many benefits. "Flower Sound Potted Plant Diary · Issue 1015" introduces you to a succulent with an extremely long blooming period.
Today's Featured Plant
Succulents are very popular now, so cute that people can't put them down, and admiring the leaves alone is enough. Not many succulents bloom, and many are finished once they do. The succulent introduced today is an exception. This flower is called Liuwei grass, a new type of ornamental plant introduced from North America, and it blooms extremely readily.
Liuwei Grass
Liuwei grass, also known as Liuwei grass, is a transliteration of the Latin scientific name "Lewisia cotyledon". Its Chinese scientific name is generally called Luwei flower. It is a perennial succulent herbaceous plant of the genus Lewisia in the family Portulacaceae, native to the mountain regions of the west coast of North America. In recent years it has been widely introduced around the world as an ornamental flower. Its leaves are lotus-shaped, and the flowers grow from between the leaves, making both flower and foliage beautiful.
Very long blooming period
Liuwei grass comes in a very rich range of flower colors, covering almost all mainstream color families, including red, orange, yellow, white and pink. The more leaves at the base, the more flower stems, often with multiple stems shooting up at once, making it easy to burst into full bloom. Its blooming period is very long. Reference materials show that its blooming period is from early spring to summer. According to the author's own cultivation experience, aside from a brief rest during the intense heat of midsummer, it is in bloom the rest of the time. It can be said to bloom all year without stopping, very diligently, and it still blooms in winter without fail, which is quite rare.
Easy care
Compared with other types of succulents, Liuwei grass is considered very easy to grow. Native to the high mountain regions of North America, it is extremely cold-hardy. In the North China region of our country, it can survive winter safely even when grown outdoors, and its vitality is very tenacious. Its drawback is that it fears damp heat. In the South China region, it needs shade in summer and should be placed in a ventilated, cool place. The rest of the time it can be managed casually. To grow it well, the potting soil is key. Be sure to use breathable, well-draining, loose succulent soil, and avoid waterlogging. Once you understand its characteristics, it is very easy to grow.
Miniature bonsai
Liuwei grass also has another notable advantage: after blooming it produces seeds. Collect the seeds well and you can continue sowing and propagating. If different colors are planted together, they may even crossbreed to produce new flower colors. It grows quickly and easily develops into an old stump, and can be made into a miniature bonsai tree. Its ornamental value is very high, with foliage to admire and flowers to enjoy, well worth having.
