I believe many of you have heard about or have had the experience of growing vegetables on your own balcony. Growing vegetables on your own balcony is safe, green and pollution-free, and you can eat them with peace of mind. In this season, I believe many of you have planted tomatoes, cucumbers and other vegetables on your own balcony. Today I want to share a little trick for growing tomatoes on the balcony so that the tomato plants hang heavy with fruit.

1. Small Watering Tips for Tomatoes

There really is a technique to watering tomatoes; you cannot just water them casually. First, during the seedling stage of tomato growth, when watering, be careful to keep the soil moist; do not let it get too dry, and do not let it get waterlogged either. Continue this care until the late seedling stage and the flowering stage of the tomatoes; once small fruits have formed, reduce watering a little, and water as little as possible without causing the plant to wilt from lack of water. When the tomato fruits reach the fruiting stage at the size of a walnut, because the second wave of young fruits begins to grow larger, increase the amount of watering at this time.

During this period, pay attention to observing the condition of the potting soil at each stage, and keep the soil moist. If it is a little dry, water it in time, and be sure to water thoroughly.

2. Fertilizing Tomatoes

When caring for tomatoes, in order to let the fruits grow larger, fertilize them in time. You can use an organic nutrient solution specially made for fruits and vegetables. When the first truss of tomatoes is the size of a walnut, apply the first fertilizer; this not only promotes fruit growth but also prevents flower and fruit drop. After that, fertilize once about every half a month. Generally, fertilizing 4 times is enough.

3. Loosening the Soil for Tomatoes

After watering the tomatoes, if you find that the potting soil has dried out and is no longer sticky, loosen the soil for them. Generally, loosen the soil from the seedling stage until before flowering and fruiting. Loosening the soil can promote the germination and differentiation of the tomatoes. Loosening the soil can also reduce water loss, while at the same time ensuring that the seedlings do not lack water as they grow.

4. Pruning Tomatoes

When tomatoes grow, their branches and leaves are very vigorous, and there will be many branches. If you do not prune at this time, it will cause a loss of nutrients, so you should prune the tomatoes appropriately. Generally, when the side shoots grow to about 4-7 cm, they can be picked off. Keeping two trusses of fruit is enough; after leaving two leaves above the second truss, just pinch off the growing tip.
