This is day 887 of Lanyao's daily original articles
Rose cultivation series article No. 84
Today is already article No. 84 sharing information about rose cultivation. Although Lanyao has already shared quite comprehensively how to grow roses, there are still flower friends making simple basic mistakes.
Today Lanyao will talk once again about repotting rose flowers. In fact, in previous shares, Lanyao already introduced the correct repotting method in detail. What Lanyao wants to talk about today is a small mistake we flower friends often make after repotting.
This mistake may be small, but it can end the life of your rose seedling in minutes! This mistake is fertilizing immediately after repotting!
Many flower friends, in order to make their roses grow quickly, think about applying more fertilizer, so they fertilize immediately right after repotting, or spray chemicals, not realizing that doing so will not only fail to make the roses grow quickly, but will very easily cause fertilizer burn, and may even burn the roses to death!
You may be wondering: doesn't repotting require adding base fertilizer?
Why can't we fertilize after repotting?
Here we need to distinguish between base fertilizer and top dressing. First, the base fertilizer used is mostly fermented organic fertilizer, with a mild fertilizer effect, and it does not directly touch the root system. When new roots extend out and grow to the place where the base fertilizer is, the rose plant is already able to adapt to the potted environment, so it is a natural transition.
For top dressing, however, we use quick-acting fertilizer. Quick-acting fertilizer has a relatively strong fertilizer effect, so in previous articles Lanyao also emphasized that quick-acting fertilizer cannot be used as base fertilizer.
Because our rose has just been repotted, the root system is more or less damaged during repotting, and the rose seedling has changed to a new environment and still needs some time to adapt. At this time, directly applying quick-acting fertilizer as top dressing is undoubtedly a double blow to the rose seedling.
It very easily leads to root damage and fertilizer burn. If the seedling itself is weak, it is also very likely to die.
So how long after repotting can fertilizer be applied?
Generally speaking, after repotting, it is safer to apply top dressing only after the rose shows obvious signs of growth.
Normally, during the growing season, after repotting you should wait at least 10 days before applying top dressing, because there is a 10-day recovery period. The damaged roots of the rose have generally repaired, new roots begin to grow, and at this time the rose's resistance to the external environment will be somewhat enhanced, so fertilizer is less likely to cause fertilizer burn.
