I believe many succulent lovers feel nervous every summer, caring for their succulents with extra caution, often moving them indoors before the temperature is even that high, only for the succulents to become leggy due to insufficient light, while others, afraid that watering will cause black rot and root death, simply do not give them a single drop of water. (Black rot is a terrifying thing for succulents. Once one gets black rot, the surrounding succulents are easily infected. If black rot is discovered early, you must quickly behead them, change the pot and soil, and do a good job of disinfecting. If it is too late, there is no saving them.) In fact, watering is a technical skill. It must be done all year round, even in the high heat of summer. When it is time to water, you still have to water. The important thing is to master the secrets of watering.

First, do not let water accumulate in the leaf center

First of all, water accumulating in the leaf center very easily breeds bacteria and insects. More importantly, when water collects in the leaf center or there are water droplets on the leaves, and then they are exposed to strong sunlight, the leaves will very easily get sunburned. This is much more serious than breeding bacteria and insects!

Second, do not choose to water at noon

Even if your succulents are sunburned to the point of peeling, do not choose to water during the high temperatures at noon, because of the temperature difference. Doing so is practically asking for death. The best place to water is a well-ventilated spot, and the best time is in the cool of the evening, ideally with a slight breeze.

Third, do not water while the plant is acclimating to its pot

Many people have the habit of giving their succulents a fresh new look and repotting them after a period of time. But during the repotting process, we trim the succulent's roots, and this process may damage the roots more or less, so they need a period of adaptation in the new pot. At this time, the roots' ability to absorb water is very weak. If we choose to water at this time, the most likely result is water accumulating around the roots, leading to root rot.

Fourth, standing water in the bottom of the pot must be dealt with promptly

Summer is rainy. If the succulents get rained on outside, then when you move them back indoors, be sure to remember to use a container to draw out the water in the bottom of the pot. What succulents fear most in summer is standing water at the bottom, which is an important cause of black rot in succulents.
