Many succulent lovers' plants have leaves that lack luster, look a bit dull, turn yellow, dry up, and so on... The causes of these situations are factors such as light, fertilizer, air, humidity, and so on. Sometimes many succulent lovers feel that they have already cared for their plants very meticulously, so why do their succulents still fail to grow well?
Let's start with fertilizer:
When fertilizing, you first need to understand the types of fertilizer and their functions. The basic nutrients for plants are the three elements nitrogen, phosphorus, and potassium:
1. Nitrogen fertilizer: it can promote lush branches and leaves and increase the flowering rate. Common nitrogen fertilizers include human waste, ammonium sulfate, and so on.
2. Phosphorus fertilizer: it can make flower colors vivid and the fruits plump. Common phosphorus fertilizers include rice bran, fish scales, bone meal, chicken manure, superphosphate, and so on.
3. Potassium fertilizer: it can make the root system grow strong, enhance flowers' resistance to pests, diseases, cold, and heat, and can also increase the fragrance of flowers. Common potassium fertilizers include straw ash, plant ash, potassium sulfate, and so on.
So, when fertilizing, you must apply fertilizer evenly and not too much. Too much not only makes the leaf color dull and unsightly, but also easily burns the root system. If you fertilize too little, the succulent will lack nutrients and will not be able to grow. Therefore, if you want your succulent to become large and glossy, you must know the fertilizer dosage. Be sure to read the usage clearly; it will be shown on the packaging of every kind of fertilizer.
Humidity:
Air humidity is also an important condition for the growth of succulents. Photosynthesis is carried out through water. If you want succulents to look more glossy, humidity is also very important. Water thoroughly each time you water; this is very important for succulents to absorb water.
Succulents themselves are tropical plants, and they are used to drought, so you do not need to treat them too well.
Light:
Without light, how can succulents grow well? Succulents themselves grow in the region of Africa, where the light is especially strong, which is what enables them to grow plump and large. However, the ones we usually grow are different from wild ones. It is best to avoid direct sunlight, blocking it slightly with glass or a shade cloth. Under direct strong light and prolonged exposure, succulents easily develop whitened or yellow leaves and black spots. But without light they will shrivel. Give them more sun (avoid direct sunlight), keep the air circulating, and open the windows often to let in some fresh air.
Finally, regularly clean dust off the leaves, so the leaves can breathe more easily and their gloss will keep improving.
