Jade Plant Flowering and Pruning Tips: A Big Temperature Difference Is Key

Jade Plant, also known as green jade tree, is a green plant belonging to the Portulacaceae family. Its stems, branches and leaves are all fleshy. The stems are mostly purple and brown, and the leaf surface carries mostly yellow-white markings, with only a small portion being pale green. Because the plant grows rather slowly, it is quite suitable for growing in pots.
So how should this small and delicate green plant be grown so that it will bloom? Let us take a look together now.
Just hearing the name Jade Plant makes people like it immensely. It is not only a foliage plant but also a flowering plant. So if you want it to bloom, you have to create a good living environment for the plant's growth. If you really want to grow a green plant well, you have to put in some effort to prepare.
First comes the supplement of sunlight. If you want the plant's flowers to bloom better, you must provide conditions not too different from its original living environment, and creating such an environment is not simple. First, what we need to provide is strong sunlight like that of summer. As long as the plant can grow in an environment with sufficient light, it will naturally grow more robustly. But this light cannot be too strong either, otherwise it will do the opposite and cause the leaves to show signs of wilting.
The color of the plant's leaves will tell you whether the sunlight it receives is appropriate. If the light is insufficient, its leaves will appear green; if the light is supplemented normally, the leaves will be purple.
Next comes the temperature difference. Increasing the temperature difference in the environment is also a good way to prompt flowering in Jade Plant. The control of the day-night temperature difference should maintain relative humidity, so that the nutrients between the plants can be effectively prevented from being diverted. A plant with sufficient nutrients will naturally grow very well, and thick branch growth along with an increase in flower quantity is naturally not out of the question.
Pruning branches and leaves can promote the growth of side branches. The denser the side branches grow, the rounder the overall shape of the plant will look, flower buds will sprout among the side branches, and the flower quantity will not be small. There are mainly two pruning methods for shaping Jade Plant: one is the natural form, and the other is the slanted-trunk form. Most bonsai shapes of Jade Plant are of the slanted-trunk form, because the natural form is too conventional and cannot express the soft beauty of the slanted-trunk form, which combines movement and stillness.
Because Jade Plant originates from Africa, it prefers a dry growing environment with sufficient sunlight. Although it can also grow in shady places, its stem nodes will become elongated, and its leaves will also become thin and small and lose their luster. Therefore, during care, if you want it to grow robustly and increase its flower quantity, pay more attention to the few little tips mentioned above.
