Heavy metals exceed the standard by 30 times: industrial waste runs rampant in Daliao, Kaohsiung; an illegal site discovered may pollute a duck farm and trigger a food safety crisis

At an illegal industrial waste treatment site in Daliao, Kaohsiung, residents reported that for nearly five years it has been suspected of mixing electric arc furnace dust into slag, causing a serious impact on the local environment. After sampling and testing by the environmental action team of Tainan Community University, it was found that in the mixed pellets, the zinc content was as high as 60,000 ppm, 30 times the soil heavy metal control standard of 2,000 ppm. The environmental action team of Tainan Community University further pointed out that just across a line on the west side of the site is a duck farm. If the ducks are contaminated and then enter the market, it could very likely set off a food safety crisis.
